With stellar views of Auckland, Ponsonby is a trendy neighborhood of boutique shops peppered with great breakfast eats and all decorated around the stunning architecture of old town Auckland. The neighborhood was established in the turn of 1900's and many are now heritage houses. Parks are a great place to have a sandwich or a frozen yogurt or simply enjoy... More

We stayed in the Ponsonby area for a few days when first arriving in New Zealand and loved it. It is full of independent shops, cafes and gallery's to stroll around. To get there is easy, it cost 5 NZ Dollars on the green city link bus which runs every 10 minutes, this bus also takes you through Parnell.

In NZ there is South of the Bombay hills and there is Auckland. And Ponsonby personifies Auckland. Hip designer labels, cool cafes. Dizengoff, SPQR, Moochowchow... A day and a night or an hour.

This street is a must visit when in Auckland! It is full of great cafe's and restaurants, art galleries and boutique shops. It is only a short bus trip from Auckland Central if that is where you are staying.

I loved this hip Auckland neighborhood. I could take the green bus downtown or walk there in 20-25 minutes. Perfect for catching ferries out to the islands or the scenic railroad trip south. On my first day I walked to Hamilton Beach (about a 10 minute walk) and got hands full of peach-colored scallop shells. There are cafes and restaurants... More
