Ponsonby is the most interesting, safe and relaxed area of the city. Excellent as a base for other areas of the city, this historical neighborhood has more Victorian style houses than any other part of the Southern Hemisphere. I was there during the xmas / new year period and boy was it quiet. Reminded me of a dead town. Anyway, it did have loads of really cool shops. Pity they weren't opened, otherwise they would have earned loads of moolah from me. Compared with Parnell, this was way better. Getting this is easy, using the LINK bus which... more

I was there for about 10yrs and loved every moment of it. I used to leave on Crummer Rd which was like a stone throw from Ponsonby. Had lunch and dinner in Ponsonby, which had a good variety of selection. Now that I leave overseas, I would strongly recommend that you visit this beautiful town in Auckland. more

The most happening place in Auckland, full of cafes, restaurants and people sitting at tables in the street at all hours of the day and night. I dont think anyone has breakfast at home.There is even a Starbucks but it is not popular with the locals who much prefer their delicious coffee. It is a great place to stay as... more
