I spent a day in this museum in 2008. It was fantastic. There is a Maori show there, so if you have not seen one elsewhere in NZ, you could see it at this museum. I had seen a show and concentrated on the exhibits. There were lots of Maori artifacts as well as display on volcanism--which is how NZ... more

Aukland has many things to recommend it. It is situated on a beautiful harbor and has a buzzing harbor area with some world cup yachts. It has the incredible Sky Tower, good shopping and some fun places to visit outside the city. It is about a 45 minute ride from the airport - the Super Shuttle cost us $32 .... more

For a kind of small museum this place covers all the bases, especially if your a first timer in Auckland. The maori show is brilliant fun and the huge woka (spl?) canoe in the entrance arena is frankly amazing - it looks unstable but apparently isn't at all. Aucklanders seem to be proud of the fact that they live surrounded... more

I loved the T-Rex exhibition which was on when I visited last - absolutely fascinating. This Museum covers a huge range of different subjects and mostly does so pretty well. I found it hard to navigate at times (but maybe that is just me), but aside from this the building is absolutely beautiful. I think they do the job of... more

This was one of our stops in Auckland - if you go book the show. It only costs 25.00 and that also covers the entry into the museum. It's beautiful in there and we enjoyed ourselves with all the exhibitions. more

We spend 4 hours here, and still did not finish all the exhibitions. Certainly a must-see in Auckland. The cafe has very nice pasta. My family members loved it very much. The souvenir shops are also well-stocked. You can re-enter to continue your visit after coming out (in our case join the satellite bus to go to Mt. Eden). You... more

Auckland Museum offers a sufficient introduction to New Zealand history including a war memorial, nature exhibits, geological/geothermal exhibits, the Maori culture/history, and much more. Although it is not as big as the Te Papa museum in Wellington, the Auckland Museum offers a sufficient number of exhibits. A half-day could be enough time to get through it all, but allocating a... more

If you want to get to know more about New Zealand and you only have a short time then go to the Auckland Museum. The Maori Cultural performance is definitely a must do. It's a lot more authentic then the one we saw in Rotorua & the performers were really helpful & friendly. They even let us take photos with... more

Don't let the name confuse you. This is a first class museum with a great amount of displays on New Zealand's history, flora and fauna, South Pacific art, etc. and has only a portion dedicated to New Zealand's wars and a beautiful area that honors those who died in them. I noticed that the local tourist guides now call it... more

Excellent and very interesting museum. We loved the Maori section and the War Memorial section. Unfortunately that day the Museum was full of little and not so little kids from different schools. Lots of noise and running around and above all they were not at all interested in what they were seeing. Teachers, why then going???? more
