The reason it is a must is that it is conveniently located, free, and it has a small but mighty gallery of Moari portraits. The cafe was wonderful. It is near the sky tower which makes it easy to do both in a morning or afternoon. I enjoyed the paintings of New Zealand artists!

Entrance is free! We did a free guided tour which starts at 11.30am and it was very good. We wanted to know more about the Maori culture and this tour gave us a good insight of Maori people by the means of the paintings. The city birds eye view paintings with satirical messages were fabulous.

We took the ferry over to Devenport and spent most of a day walking around. Our lunch was just fine, but we didn't think the town was very interesting. We enjoyed the beach area, and poked into a few shops, but all in all, I think we could have better spent our time in the Parnell district of Auckland.

The building itself is a piece of art and it worth taking a break for a cup of coffee inside and viewing the wonderful Albert park next door.

The cafe must be one of the wonderful locations in Auckland but its service is rubbish. Today we sat at a filthy table, uncleaned since the last guest, and waited and waited for them to pour boiling water on a tea bag. Eventually the tea arrived and was dumped on the filthy table. When questioned about the poor service the... More

The Art Gallery is very welcoming as it is free admission and even the guided tours were no charge when we visited. The architectural blend of old and new is stunning and the coffee shop feels as if you are sitting up in the boughs of a beautiful tree instead of in downtown Auckland, thanks to reflecting surfaces on neighbouring... This beautiful building, 2 minutes from Queen St, the City Library and the Aotea Centre, is well worth a visit. The building borders Albert Park and you get beautiful views of this city park from windows in the Gallery. There is always something for everyone - activities in the weekends and holidays for children, regular international exhibitions and permanent collection... More

The gallery was closed for ages for refurbishment it was worth the wait. Architectually a great mix of old and new . Don't miss the back terrace backing on to Albert park.

My daughter and I regularly visit the Auckland Art Gallery, the building is a work of art in itself and we never tire of our favourite pieces among the standing exhibits. There are often special exhibitions and we particularly enjoyed the Degas to Dali collection and, more recently, the Light Show (worth the fee attached). Once you've had your fill... More

Great interactive art with the Lego display and lights. Even young children enjoyed themselves. Good parking close by. Helpful people in the foyer.
