Auckland Art Gallery is an impressive building with a beautiful vaulted wooden ceiling in the entry. The art space has large clean white walled rooms and high ceilings. As a building I'd give it 10/10. I must be getting old however, in general the art was either so esoteric as it left you scratching your head, or so childish it... More

The varied types of art really struck me. The native art was the most impressive part, but I am also a landscape nut. Portraits allow you to examine the clothing types and styles of the past, as well as the image that people wanted to portray. I would like to come back sometime.

this was a really cool free thing to do to kill some time in Auckland. The old Maori portraits and earl New Zealnd art was well worth seeing! Staff was eager to help out and provide insight when asked. Worth seeing for sure even if you aren't into art just to learn some of New Zealand's history.

This gallery is fantastic offering a mix of styles and a wealth of New Zealand art, historical and contemporary. The Maori and Isländer content is by itself worth the visit. Best if all it is free and in an amazing space that is much larger than it looks from the outside. A must visit when in Auckland.

We always visit this place every time we hear new art exhibits. We enjoyed the visual arts and shows the culture and creative minds of New Zealanders. It is a wholesome gallery for young children, adults and art lovers where everyone can interact within the works of arts.

We only went in for a quick visit but three hours later we had just got round. Loved it, great variety of art both local, indigenous and historical. Well worth the time, and it is free.

Loved the Goldie art but the museum is very echo-y and so large I got extremely bored. I felt like I was walking for hours. Good thing there's heaps of seats to park my bum.

We went here as part of our day walking around the city. It is a very good set-up art museum, with different galleries showing different collections. I am not an art fan, but enjoyed it anyway!

Kia Ora! The gallery was hosting several visual art exhibitions when we visited there during our Auckland trip. The contemporary section is beautifully designed and the interior is exquisitely planned. We spent almost two hours there walking through the areas, personally I loved the Billy Apple exhibition the most. It's definitely a great place to explore. Storage locker is provided... More
