What an awesome light experience! Love what we take for granted as daily use can be transfixed into visual masterpieces!! Would have loved to have been able to take pictures.

Visited on a very wet Saturday. There was a very special showing by Billy Apple? which went right over my head. Too off-beat for me. The rest of the art was very interesting. There was something for all tastes. The cafe was great with a lovely selection of foods and quite reasonable given the high cost of coffee and sandwiches... More

I love the art gallery. It is very peaceful and there is a large variety of art to look at and enjoy. There is definitely something for every art lover. I must say I'm not thrilled about the cafe though. Their coffee is a bit hit and miss. Its also much pricery than other places in the area.

Like many other new world cities Auckland went through a period in the late 20th century of 'modernization'. The value of historic commercial architecture has since been recognized and there are some remarkable buildings to see throughout the centre, one of the most remarkable being the Art Gallery with the restored original building and a new wing which is beautifully... Well worth an hour or do, but too many boring galleries. Love the Goldie portraits. Hate the Billy exhibition.

This museum, in an architecturally interesting building, is well worth a visit. The collection is appealing, there are free guided tours, and admission is free except for some special exhibits. The Maori paintings are especially well done. In contrast, the museum shop is small and not especially appealing.

The award winning building is as much an attraction here as the art. The architect has done a wonderful job of integrating the building and outside spaces with the parkland in which they are immersed. There are frequent unexpected vistas, and the juxtaposition of outdoor art and the surroundings are amazing. The art is a mix of contemporary and classic... More

Focus on New Zealand art. Huge DIY Lego structure evolving and changing every day with actively encouraged participation by visitors.

If you are familiar with European Art museums this does not compete with then. It is a nice museum but not with great names, lot of nice local work and a little bit history.

A great place to spend a few hours, and escape from the city. A few of the exhibition spaces were closed, but still spent longer than expected in here. The stand outs for me were the Charles F Goldie portraits and the work by Robert Ellis. There was also more modern exhibits, including a sound and lights show, and one... More
