A quaint little seaside town. Lots of interesting little shops. Also many cafes and bars and restaurants. We came by ferry from Auckland and had a nice couple of hours walking around and having lunch

Took the ferry to Davenport and also did the one-hour tour of the island. The town was quaint with lots of Victorian-style houses and shops. The views from the top of the hills were amazing. A nice diversion from the big-city atmosphere of Auckland.

If you want to get away from the big city but do not want to go far or stand in traffic for ages - jump on the ferry to lovely Devenport! It's very relaxed, lovely Victorian style houses and cosy cafés. Have a stroll along the seaside walk and visit the great National Museum of the Royal NZ Navy. It... More

In Auckland you should visit Devonport for a stroll/coffee/glass of wine. I feel like the restaurants are sitting on their laurels a little bit (one place said she was closing for lunch because shed been quiet all day and wanted a break!) but the area/close swimming beach are worth an afternoon. Theres a good park for kiddies and of course... More

Devonport is a pretty little town. We walked up to the top of the hill--not a bad walk, but wear good comfortable shoes as it is a way up! Had lunch in a nice restaurant. Did a little shopping. We wanted to take the harbour cruise on Thursday afternoon, but the 1:30pm trip was sold-out so we purchased tickets for... More

Devonport is the place to live if you dont mind inflated prices but the views and the people make it all worth while apart from lake road making it a mission to leave with out traffic it is a great place.

If you are staying in Auckland take the ferry over to Devenport. It is not very expensive at all. It is quite an interesting place with some nice coffee shops and a lucky lotto shop. You can get great views of Auckland Harbour while you are there or on the return trip. Great way to spend an hour of two.
