We recently took our grandson on his first ferry trip from Downtown Auckland to Devonport. It has been many years since our last visit and I must say it looks great and when they finish the work on the Devonport Wharf it will look fantastic. A walk around shops, a snack at a local cafe and a play in the... More

Drive across the bridge-turn right all the way to the end of Lake Rd turn right and here u are - right in the heart of a seaside town. Or jump on the ferry from the city and the wharf puts you right here also. The wharf in itself is a great sitesee-fishing with the kiddies/ restaurants/cafes/shops new and antique... More

Stayed four days in Devonport this spring. Nice and calm. Perfect for walking trips and lazy lunches and sunset drinks. Beautiful view over the city from Victoria mtn. Visit the restaurant at the Esplande hotel og No One next door. Highly recommended. Nice free parking down next to the ferry terminal.

Amazing views of downtown Auckland from North Head and a nice and easy walk (we had a baby stroller). The central "downtown" area was great with cute stores and charming character. Lovely to drive by and enjoy the energy even if you don't visit the Navy Museum which is one of the main attractions in the area!

If you have an afternoon to kill in Auckland, grab the ferry and take a short 10-minute trip across the harbour to Devonport. It is full of quaint boutiques, trendy cafes and upmarket eateries. It's very different to central Auckland, but very close and accessible. You won't need to spend a full day there i wouldn't think, but at a... More

Nice walk up and down to Mt Victoria with a 360 degree views. Had some quaint shops and I like the feel of a small town environment.

Great place to ferry to for lunch. A good selection of eateries and shops and pleasant to walk around, including popping up to the volcano.

We took the brief ferry ride from Auckland across to Devonport. We were able to walk along the streets, checking out the many shops and restaurants catering to all tastes. Popped into the Devonport Chocolate Shop - very delicious, very expensive! A stroll along the water's edge was really pleasant with lots to look at. Ferries run very regularly and... More

We walked virtually the whole Island in a day: Walking up to the lookout and around the bays. Taking in the shops and stopping for a pint or two in The Patriot bar.

Don't bother reading this, get on one of the ferries and head straight over. It's fantastic, beautiful, historically rich and full of quirky, fun and cool shops- and some amazing pubs! Go- you will love it.
