My husband & I were visiting Matakohe & were told to go visit the Kauri Museum - what a find. The exhibits are all lovingly laid out with lots of information (lots & lots of information) and great re-enactments. We went in the morning, got information overload, went out for something to eat & then came back in the afternoon... More

I took 2 visitors from the US here, and we all enjoyed it immensely -- so many things to see, so very interesting, and a really informative history of kauri and kauri gum. We spent 3 hours, and wished we had double the time. It is expensive, but absolutely worth it -- both for the visitor and to support the... More

I wasn't too sure what to expect in this museum, but I was very impressed with everything I saw, The collection is quite extensive, and I learned a lot about the kauri timber and gum industry. It is definitely worth a visit. Plan to spend some time here. More

Amazing displays. We started with a docent introduction and then wandered for a couple of hours. The dioramas were wonderfully done and it was easy to see just how important this tree was to the settlement of New Zealand. They are fantastic trees, and the size shown with a circumference wall diagram, shows just how big these monsters really are. More

We recently visited the Kauri Museum and found it interesting but as with other reviewers, found it overpriced at $25 per adult and $20 for a student. Would not visit again unless it was on our way...we travelled 2 hours to get there based on the reviews of others! More

This is a very good museum and I could have spent longer than the one hour I did here. Some very interesting displays on show. I do think that the price is too high ($45 for two adults), I was guessing $10-$15 before I enquired. $15 would be fair I think. I too would have liked to have seen information... More

A lot of info about Kauri industry and the bushmens living during the times. But there should be also info about what were the forests like before English came and cut them down and also what is done now to ensure the continuity and survival of the remaining forest. Good museum but as so usual to NZ nature turism, only... More

This place offers so much, and has greatly expanded since we first visited, a dozen or so years ago. I love social history, and this place has it in spades. Before I even got into the museum, I was captivated by the old post office exhibit, and then I had to ignore the fabulous gift shop before I got into... More
