White Island was our must-do list for north NZ. We were not disappointed. My wife, 13yo daughter and I took a Vulcan helicopter out of Whakatane. The flight was great, but the volcano was something else. The vivid colours, acrid smells and jagged textures of the other-worldly landscape assault your senses as your local pilot-guide safely navigates you around tracks... More

Was great to go to an actual active volcano! It was a lot of fun - difficult to describe what you do, but I enjoyed it all. It was also really informative and you learn a great deal about how volcanoes occur and the back story to white island... Only thing is that the boat ride over was really, long... More

Very well organized tour (even the packed lunch is great!) but the 2 hours boat trip out and back can be a little tedious. Guides were not quite as enthusiastic as others we came across in NZ but this is a relative comment as the way NZ does tourism is far superior to most countries in terms of quality...not cheap... More

I was nervous about going in the helicopter but it was great! The volcano is like going to another world (I imagine) and the view over the sea was just as impressive. Would definitely recommend. More

Take travel sickness tablets even if you've never been sea sick on this trip, it's a long way out to sea and you want to enjoy the dolphins and views -not be heaving! Not suitable for kids under 7 because of wearing the safety hat & gas mask. The ground is uneven so you must wear enclosed shoes too. The... More

Whole experience was AMAZING. Saw dolphins on way back on boat. Tour on the Island was informative, and experience was sureal with smoke and steam and smells. Swam in sea off the boat after tour. More
