We stayed in a one-bedroom time share. We had a great sail on the lake on the Barclay (highly recommend). Went to the thermal swimming pools just outside town, which were fantastic. Enjoyed a traditional Maori hangi dinner (in same location as thermal pools) where we enjoyed dinner with 4 Aussies and 26 Iranians. Visited a most picturesque winery just... More

A very beautiful city and also lake. Excellent for all ages both day and night. Young and old alike. There are many free attractions around this area. Rides out on the lake, a short journey to the mountains with bungy jumps nearby. Stay in the lodges with backpacker accommodation available also. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there.

Fabulous lake, so very beautiful and so many activities that surround it. This is really worth a look even if you are not into fishing, close to the mountains and many family friendly activities. Close to wonderful thermal springs.

Located in a collapsed volcanic crater, beautiful Lake Taupo is as big as Singapore and a major sports center for New Zealand. Fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling - Lycra everywhere! I practiced the lazy man's sport of cappuccino-drinking at a lakeside cafe.

The water along some 80 metres of lake Taupo.'s shoreline is hot to the touch. Take highway 1 in a southerly direction from Taupo town for about 2 Km until one passes a Mobil garage. The area of the lake which is hot is directly opposite. There is a small space to park a car. Ducks and geese are attracted... More

We recently stayed in Great Lake holiday park in Taupo. It was a lovely caravan park run by Carl & Tracey Roos and her parents. We are from Ireland and had rented a camper van in Auckland only to find when we reached Lake Taupo Apollo had forgotten to give us a power lead. Carl hadn't got one but sometime... More

Lake Taupo is a beautiful lake with a resort town in close proximity to Orakei Korako, New Zealand Jetboats and many other activities. There are a number of shops and restaurants with awesome views of the lake. This is a destination point for people visiting the North Island. We drove from Auckland for the day and it was well worth... More

We stopped in lake Taupo to rest up after a cruise before heading back to the US. My husband fished in the area for many years, so we stayed at the cottage on the Oasis property and shopped at the Merchant food and liquor. The. Hotel property is right on the lake and the Merchant's food and liquor choices rivaled... More

We chose the classic vessel "Ernest Kemp"for our cruise on this beautiful lake. It was smaller and more intimate than the larger vessels. Our trip was full and we noticed only 4 people on the larger vessel. The skipper was friendly and very informative. We were able to view the Maori paintings at very close quarters, a real bonus as the... More
