Beautiful blue lake with great views across to the volcanic mountains. Tons of tranquil bays & streams to stop and contemplate the world go by! Easy access for a swim and the ability to undertake any water activity your heart desires! Natural attractions are a must see - Huca Falls & Craters of the Moon to name just a few... More

This is one of the most beautiful lakes in the area. It's dimensions,186m deep are quite mind boggling but the beauty of the area and the lake is really something you could spend half a day on. Walk around, visit one of the many cafes around and generally do nothing. Loved it!

The views over the lake with it's surrounding mountains were stunning as we drove down. It's worth stopping at the viewing point if you can. There seems to be plenty of places to stay and eat, and although we were only passing through we would definitely come back. Nice picnic benches along the front bay road, with lots of walks... More

Great lake to spend your day. Good restaurants around it too. Very relaxing and the weather was great too.

Almost too big to take in, Lake Taupo is enormous, though being large it is still amazingly beautiful, so many different view points it would be impossible to say which is best, makes lake Rotorua look a bit pathetic in comparison. Simply stunning.

We spent a day in the Taupo area and the lake itself is stunning! It is the largest lake in New Zealand and whilst looking out across the lake you can't see the end so it is easy to forget that it is in fact a lake... The lake is made even more fascinating knowing that it was formed after... More

We stayed one night here and it was quite busy for parking on arrival but after 5.30 the parking restrictions are lifted so we found a spot for the night free of charge. We walked around the Park which was beautiful and interesting, we sat and soaked our feet in the hot water bath which are in the Park Garden,... More

The setting of the town of Taupo by it's lake surrounded by volcanoes, capped with snow even in January, is enchanting. The town itself, obviously built without reference to town planning, is dire. You get fast food outlet after fast food outlets, noisy bars and very average restaurants next to each other in prime locations. Activities in the area are... More

I took the family to have a few days there at Lake Taupo. Middle part of North Island of New Zealand. The lake is so calm and beautiful. Very much enjoyed the swimming. Good water front restaurants available, recommend to shop around before settle in the dining. As the price could be quite different. Loved the place. Highly recommended.

We visit Taupo usually twice a year and this time took our road bikes to try the bike paths. The one from the city to 4 mile bay was wonderful, sealed all the way and largely flat, it was an easy and pleasant ride with lots of scenery and great homes to look at - as well as good picnic... More
