The informality and memorabilia as we entered showed us we were in for a different night at the movies. Should we sit outside or in. The canvas seats were comfy but the locals came armed with pillows so they new the headrests were a bit hard. But it was still a great night.

We visited the outdoor cinema during our stay in Broome and really enjoyed it. Some people took cushions, but we were comfortable in the deckchair style seating.

History, nostalgia, uniqueness and a great movie as well. A great place to immerse yourself in the experience. What more could you ask for

We are not fans of the deckchair seating (in any outdoor cinema), but there was an alternative - wooden 'park benches' with vinyl cushions - which was much more comfortable. Unfortunately, these were right at the back under cover, and the sound system seems to be meant for the open area, so the very wordy movie "The Judge" that we... More

We were at Sun Pictures Cinema in Broome last Tuesday night - what a fabulous venue and lots of interesting history, more of which can be found at the Broome Museum. Only one plane flew over during lead up to the main film The Judge (such a good movie) so no interruptions during. We took a pillow each, but if... More

The sun pictures open air cinema is a must do for any movie buff. A piece of history. The fact that you need to cross the road to get a coffee in no way diminishes the experience, if anything it adds. For once I went to the cinema and didn't feel I was being ripped off. Shame I didn't see... More

Went the early session, good fun with the occasional jet low overhead only adding to the experience. Suggest taking a cushion and warm clothing. We did not notice any mosquitoes that others have commented on.

Alternate between watching the movie and the amazing southern nights sky from your canvas slung chair. You may even get a late flight into Broome skudding just overhead into the bargain. Highly recommend this pretty unique cinema experience.

Really enjoyed watching a movie at the Sun Pictures Cinema, the deckchairs were a bit uncomfortable and we definitely recommend bringing a cushion and dont forget the insect repellent :-) Great collection of vintage projectors and memorabilia.
