If you're expecting beach with rolling surf and waves you're going to be disappointed. The beach is normally to swim in, because the water is generally calm It is more about the surrounding areas. ie a walk along the pier, seeing the penguins at dusk or visitng the multitude of bars and restaurants close by.

with penguins! the locals recommend hanging around the pier at night to see the local penguins. We loved Lady Grange bar that has free jazz concerts on sunday afternoon - excellent! Presented by Jazz head records.

Wandered along here at a brisk pace, with a coffee stop on the way. Superb walkway for runners, walkers, cyclists, skate boarders. Plenty of space, great architecture all along the sea front, some fabulous photo taking spots. We loved the bronze 'wharfie' sculpture on the beach wall, and the story that the guy and others had swum to work in... More

Great place to go to sample the famous cakes! Good walks along the front to walk off the effects of said cakes! Used the tram from Melbourne to get there and glad we made the effort. Some good shops too!

At 9oclock at night this pier was full of tourists taking sunset pictures. It was lovely, the skyline of Melbourne all a glow, and the gentle sea tide flowing in and out, it was lovely. A jacket is recommended! Lots of parking.

St Kilda is home to the famous Luna Park amusement park. It's not much of a beach to swim at, but there are lots of trendy cafes and shops to visit. Head to Republica on Jacka blvd for a drink and a relax in style. If you visit at night time (around sunset), head to the end of the jetty... More

went to St Kilda markets on sunday. I love markets and these didn't disappoint. There were so many different types of stalls and so many of them. After the markets we went for a walk along the beach then to the shopping centre and was surprised at the amount of shops open on a sunday. Had a great day.
