Old school and seems to coming to a close. There is nowhere like this in Melbourne and how it hasn't been made a protected period piece is beyond me. Still a little time left, go and see on a the real big sreen the classics and cult movies as they were mean to be seen whilst you still can.

Having lived just outside Melbourne for many years, it's amazing that I'd never actually visited the Astor Theatre. However, the chance to see South Pacific in my older years after seeing it first in my mid-teens, inspired this occasion. The theatre lived up to its iconic status. I loved the Art Deco armchairs/decor, as well as the general sense of... More

Can I start by saying that the time of writing this wonderful place is due to close in a few short months thanks to a greedy landlord and I'm quite angry about that because... I'm just a visitor in Melbourne and indeed Australia but they are so lucky to have a couple of these theatres left. When you are privelaged... More

Best go see this as soon as you can, sadly its doors are closing for good very soon. Lots of old movies can be viewed here with lots of double features. Old fashioned choc tops and they still use the film reel and the old chairs. But for history you must come here as there are not many cinemas around... More

I love this cinema. It always shows interesting films ranging from the new to the old, many cult classics and sing-a-longs! This cinema oozes nostalgic vibes right down to the bone. The staff are fantastic, the venue is fantastic I can't recommend going here enough. Go and see one of your favorite movies here or even a new release.

Sadly the Astor looks like closing soon, so I took the opportunity to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show, something I have never had a chance to get around to doing. Well.....it was worth the wait. A FANTASTIC experience of watching the movie with a talented bunch acting out the movie scenes on stage. There was great audience participation in... More

Melbourne icon is about to be closed by greedy developers who have made it impossible for this icon to stay open. Old ,lives, new movies, mammoth screen in a lovely Art Deco building. Do it even just to check out the decor.

Step back in time and have an experience. It's a little worn and shabby, but the old girl has grace and style. Great movie selection to choose from, get on-line sessions or better still register off the poster. Best quality ice creams in Melbourne!
