A classic retro cinema with good viewing of old favourites in double features. We saw double monty Python. Lots of fun and great value. Lovely decor and atmosphere. You can buy alcoholic drinks, coffee or typical candy bar snacks and take in with you. We will be back.

We called in on a Saturday afternoon with friends to see "The Wizard of Oz" followed up by "The Beatles - A Hard Days Night". What a treat. The theatre has been beautifully maintained in it's original glory. Service was a little slow, but once you purchase your goodies and take your seat it's a wonderful experience. I reckon it's... The Astor Theatre is now under the umbrella of the Palace Cinemas group. Fortunately it retains all of its historic features and continues to show a range of older and art house and cult films; some of these films have been restored and are excellent to view on the big screen and hear in their improved form. The Astor also... More

Gentile and quaint old style theatre going well known to locals and at the top of the Chapel St shopping strip so perhaps them the two together for a matinee or evening show.

I love Astor theatre. The location is great, and easily accessible by a short walk from the tram/train stop. Great variety of movie screenings, friendly staff and delicious snacks to purchase before the cinema. Such a beautiful interior!

Comfy chairs, lush carpet, olde world decor and a big screen make a day at the movies a treat. We watched The Great Escape on father's Day and it was a terrific way to spend the day. It's not expensive, the ice creams are delicious and you can have a cold beer or glass of wine too if you prefer.

I had never been here and my fiance took me in for a look in the foyer area. It is a grand cinema which has been here since 1936 and operates on a single screen format. Looking forward to going to see a movie now. Lots of patrons were there when we were looking at its gorgeous interior.

One of Melbourne's many gems to gloat about, the Astor Theatre is a must. The last single-screen cinema in the Southern Hemisphere, the Astor boasts the ability to screen movies old-style on projectors, as well as keeping the tradition of the Double Feature alive. Cheaper than your average cinema, the Astor is worth the travel from the city, and its... More

A favourite haunt & a Melbourne institution! Playing cinema the old fashioned way with double features, intermissions & great old flicks on the big screen! A beautiful deco theatre over 2 levels. Do special screenings & sing a longs, dress ups & theme nights! Fantastic!
