Step back in time and have an experience. It's a little worn and shabby, but the old girl has grace and style. Great movie selection to choose from, get on-line sessions or better still register off the poster. Best quality ice creams in Melbourne!

My friends and i love to go to a nostalgic theatre. We always dress up and have a wonderful time at the movies and go and eat afterwards.

The Astor dates from 1936 and is one of the few surviving big-screen cinemas from the Art Deco era. I'm a member of the Friends of the Astor association (FOTAA) and encourage others who value heritage buildings and cultural history to join, even if they can't get to the theatre often. A huge program of films is screened. Some are... More

A great place to watch an cult classics in sumptuous art deco surroundings. There are often catered events and a decent bar upstairs, with a beautiful balcony so you can people watch below. The resident cat give the place a nice homely feel. If you have long legs, beware - the seats are quite cramped. It has old world charm... More

Beautiful old cinema, done in Art Deco style, one of the last big cinemas, one screen only, like we used to go to when we were kids, They show an eclectic mix of movies, new, classics, pick up a calendar from outside the cinema. Snack bar is great and I just love the choc tops! Only I always end up... More

I have been to the Astor a few times and always marvel at the decor. I love the snack bar with it's different options like slices of cake and fruit. The way the curtain opens at the beginning of the movie takes me back to my childhood. A must to be experienced

Great classic movies. Don't expect IMAX but a great old school cinema. Check the movie guide in advance and enjoy some of the best movies ever.

AMazing art deco cinema, that shows double bills for less than the average price for 1 film! Also has legendary choc tops which do not fail to deliver.

Really cool, retro movie theatre/cinmea. Takes you back of the good old days of going to the movies - plush curtains, lobby, proper movie ushers, etc.

Whether you're seeing a silent classic, a double feature from Hollywood's Golden era or even a contemporary movie, the atmosphere is priceless. A comfortable musty feel pervades the space, the popcorn is fresh and delicious and the architecture genuine. I loved it in my uni days and now loving it again now I can take my kids, my friends, as... More
