You can hardly believe you are so close to a major city. Somehow this wonderful trail seems to link one tree lined pathway with another then another. You are totally unaware how close the urban sprawl is. As a walker it can get annoying when cyclist come bombing past and you forget which side of the path to stand, left... More

I am a regular rider of the Capital City trail, its a great relativity easy ride with very few challenging hills (there are a few hills a little further out near studly park). In and around the city its a very flat ride, with great views of the city (love it first thing in the morning with the sun coming... More

Great for walking, running or riding your way along the Yarra River and seeing some of Melbourne. No big hills and plenty of places to stop and soak in the scenery.

I bought a bike a few weeks ago for commuting to work, but decided today, on a whim, to cycle this trail. Amazing! I can't believe I've lived in this city for seven years without knowing it had this incredible stretch of safe, cycle/walk-able, beautiful parkland stretching in an huge loop around the whole inner city. The whole experience made... More

This is a 31 km loop that circles Melbourne. We start at Mc Robertson bridge in Toorak, but you can start anywhere. From Toorak we head away from city along Yarra banks so close to the city but feels so beautifully rural, past Dwight Falls, Collingwood Children's Farm, Abbotsford Convent, all good spots for a picnic or cafe stop. Ride... More

Little coffee shops, parks, Collingwood Childrens Farm, Federation Square, River banks, and Princess Park - and I have only explored half of the capital city trail. I mainly use the capital city trail for running and training for marathons, as there is a treat for stopping at the many coffee shops and shopping strips for a quick break. With the... More

We really enjoyed riding this and saw really lovely scenery. It is great how the river banks have been kept for public use and how leafy it is right into such a big city. However, the signage really is just not good enough. We got lost so many times as the turnoffs from one bike way to another are often... More

Coming from Christchurch NZ where you are taking your life in your hands riding a bike around town we were blown away by the Melbourne bike trails - scenic, safe and properly sealed and maintained. We hired the bikes from a place at Fed Square and did a 4 hour loop up the river and back and then down to... More

This was the highlight of our trip to Melbourne. What a wonderful amenity to have! It is a peaceful ride through pretty scenery, with a few funky surprises too. So cool. Wish we had cycling like this in Auckland.

We took about 3 hours to do the Capital City Trail and had a great time travelling through all the areas of inner Melbourne from river banks, to tidal areas under the motorway, to the docks, and the pedestrian chaos of the casino/Southbank! On a mild winter day it was a very pleasant outing. My main issue was with the... More
