This is worth several visits, as there is so many hidden corners to explore. Great with kids as well (not the new childrens' garden). Then at night you can take in a play or movie. Another top five for Melbourne

When visiting Melbourne we always go to the Botanic Gardens. It is an easy walk from the CBD and you can visit the excellent Shrine of Remembrance on the way. I think our highlight is the Children's Garden. Unfortunately, this year we were in Melbourne in July and the Children’s Garden is closed from the end of July school holidays... More

Don't miss the fairy tree, and the cottage from England. Nice walkable park that is free. Right in downtown.

This is a beautiful place to spend a half day when the weather is nice. Just stroll around, take photos, some amazing trees and views of the surrounds. There is also shade if you want to hide.

We visited the gardens as part of our early morning jog and ended up spending a few hours walking through the various areas of the gardens. Really beautiful and peaceful oasis in the middle of a big city. We were too early to enter the herbarium but would love to do so next time. Also, the cafe doesn't open until... More

The Royal Botanical Gardens are a place to enjoy and unwind in the heart of the city. I love to wander and enjoy the many different areas it has on offer. I entered via jardin tan/observation gate entrance and loved the topiary area and beyond. The children's garden looked amazing but was closed when I was there. If you have... More

In the Summer time this is the most amazing place, to just sit down on the grass, relax, hang out with your friends or a cute couple picnic. The park is really just so amazingly beautiful and so close to the Melbourne CBD. The best part about this place would have to be that everything is offered to you for... More

Loved the gardens...we did have a good winters day. Restaurant is lovely for a cuppa, overlooks a lake. Most people were wandering looking at the plants, water storage/conservation area, cactus features and conservatory. Well worth a stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city life only 1/2 mile away
