Great for strolling and people watching as well as for its plants. It also has a tea house/cafe nicely situated by a little lake.

hire a bike and ride to the gardens, then walk around, they are superb. Take a picnic and spend the day. The gardens are so well kept, and just a treat.

A nice, tranquil get away from the CBD. Easy walking distance from the CBD and plenty of quiet spots to relax and take in the sun. The main lake area is rather pleasant.

Having visited the botanic gardens of sydney and brisbane, i found the botanic gardens in melbourne quite underwhelming. The space is huge, but the natural landscape is not there, not much variety of plants and flowers and generally nothing particularly impressive. It is, however, one of the places one can have a nice walk and good city views so it... More

They charge you @ Hobart/rasmanian botanical gardens guided tours, but they don't @ the Victorian royal botanical gardens. So it's much more flexible & relaxing experience.

I remember the time when I came to the lake inside this garden, the man played violin beside the falling leaves, such a beautiful memory!

Sweeping lawns for a picnic, the wide variety of specimens and trees. The vibe during a warm spring afternoon only added to the beauty of the gardens. The gardens have to be one of the best attractions that Melbourne has to offer and totally free. Highly recommend that everyone experience botanic gardens - there's something for everyone.

Lovely autumn sunshine, lorikeets and cockatoos everywhere. Wonderful spaces with lots of happy relaxed wanderers. Have been here many times but always find something new. The restaurant by the lake is in a great position but the staff are a bit slack. They don't clear the tables so there are a lot of birds and other creatures trying to steal... More

Very nice well kept gardens in Melbourne city areas. Some of the best. The fitzroy gardens with capt cooks cottage and the childrens fairy tree is nice too. Gardens are all very nice and well maintained in Melbourne. As the Number plates did say :garden State" years ago.

The green house was beautiful and filled with different displays of flowers. If you love flowers this is for you. I have trouble with allergies, but it was not overwhelming and I enjoyed every second.
