Some of the most memorable dates I've been on have the Botanical Gardens and usually a picnic and something bubbly to drink - most recently in May where I managed to spill some fabulous french champagne. It's the perfect place with great views, plenty of lovely spots to park a picnic basket and a rug and just wandering under the... More

It was very nice, nice stroll, according to hubby who knows more they're well designed & maintained. Just nice to get away from noise & crowds if that's what you feel like.

Perfect day at the Gardens, beautiful weather, lovely plants BUT wanted some lunch at 2.15pm. Told that the kitchen had closed, so sorry can't toast your soggy sandwich can only microwave it!!! ( $13 by the the way) Why are people like this running a business in our most loved tourist attraction? Come on Melbourne you can do better than... More

Yes take your lunch and stroll at your leisure. Entrance free. See the amazing collection from around the globe. There is a nice cafe where you can also buy food of a good standard. Right in the heart of Melbourne.

We walked these gardens, which are as much an ark for plants as an athesthetic creation. It was interesting to see a tropical section which had rainforest bird species such as brown and striated thornbill in the city. Bird wise, the area really needs control for the invasive and introduced blackbirds, starlings and Indian myna which vastly outnumber native species.... More

We made a stop here from the Melbourne Visitor shuttle and would have liked longer. The woman at the ticket desk (for tours, which we didn't have time for) was really helpful by giving us a map and suggesting what we could cover off in under an hour with a small loop. This was great, it was a sunny day... More

Really pleasant and free.... which is great on a backpacker budget. Make sure you go and find the fairy tree - it's really special!

We had a tour (every Monday, but check the website) "Stary nights" explaining the southern sky. The tours was not a tourist-thing, very interessting and the stories about the first discovery of the sky, observing the stars and planets from this side of the wold very interesting.

Very beautiful gardens with many beautiful flower beds, and tress. Plenty of lawn space for younger ones that like to run around.
