Spend the afternnon walking around the Botanic Garden. It is absolutely beautiful. It is so huge that I got lost to go back to the hotel. There are so many types of trees and flowers and also a beautiful playgroud for kids. Highly recommended if you have some free time. More

Visited the Royal Botanical Gardens on my recent two week trip to Melbourne. A perfect day to stroll through meticulous manicured gardens in perfect serenity. The gardens are easily accessible by public transportation and is near the Shrine of Remembrance. I took Tram 8 which ran along St. Kilda Road and dropped me off in the area (stop #20) but... More

We loved that one could almost get lost long all the pathways. Great place for a brisk walk or to let the kids run wild after strict city shopping. Beautifully maintained. More

This is a very nice well maintained garden near the center of Melbourne that is very peaceful and relaxing. There are some unusual things such as a lake that is bright green due to the tiny fern growing over it. It's not really a spectacular garden but a worthwhile spot to escape the city for a few hours. I spent practically a whole day at this famous botanical garden park. First I took the Aboringinal Tour and then an overview tour of what the park offers. It was a lovely day. One warning: it is difficult to find the visitors center when you take the tram....and this is a very large park to walk through. There are no... More

We stayed in South Yarra for 2 weeks when in Melbourne and went jogging every morning. We always ended up in the gardens as part of our jog. They are magnificent to jog in as there are so many different path options. I have a couple of blogs that might be of interest. Firstly, one is of the cafes in... More

The Royal Botanic Gardens are located on the south bank of the Yarra River and are only a short walk form the centre of town. They're genuinely beautiful and well worth a stroll, especially if the weather's good, as it was for us. They have recently refurbished the "Guilfoyles volcano", which is not really a volcano, but is very impressive... More

Free. Located close-in, so easy access from the city. If you're from outside Australia, you'll likely find the gardens of interest because of the unusual trees and plants indigenous to Australia. More
