Spent a lovely evening listening to Tchaicovsky et al in the gloriously decorated Recital Hall. Incredibly classy Australian wooden paneling on the walls and ceiling, great acoustics, just lovely. Not enough staff working on the bar at interval to grab a drink in the 20 minutes given though.

This is a valuable venue for music lovers. The acoustics have been designed for the discerning, and though I don't know much about this I do know that I've heard excellent work (opera, baroque, etc). Seats are comfortable. As other reviewers note, the lack of a centre aisle means it is almost inevitable that you'll have people squeezing past you.... More

My first trip to the Recital Centre. It's a lovely venue. The concert with Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway was wonderful! They were only in Melbourne for one night and I'm so glad I got to see them. Fantastic!

We went to a classical music concert here, the sound was excellent, comfortable seating, staff very helpful, places to get food & drink if needed and handy to transport. We were in the stalls only 5 rows back and it was good to be so close to the performers. The interior timber design is very interesting-overall a very enjoyable place... More

This is a marvellous venue. It is easy to find - virtually at the back of the Arts Centre and National Gallery and well served by trams going by. There is a restaurant, bar and cafe right out front and also a bar inside - but be aware you are not permitted to take any drinks or snacks (apart from... More

One of the best recital venues in Australia as well as others in the world. Sound is very clear and pleasing (and I have heard a range of music played in the Centre). Beautiful, warm interior of curved and carved wooden interior. Seats are well positioned and comfortable. Melbourne audiences to dress for the occasion and are friendly to visitors.... More

We went here recently to see one of the 'Ear Films' Productions, which was very interesting. Sound was good, but seemed to be louder on one side of the room. The staff were helpful and explained things well. If for nothing else, the toilets are like an optical illusion and I was very disorientated when I first walked in!

Attended Madelein Peroux concert, wonderful artist, totally destroyed by incompetant mixer. He was either drunk, stone deaf or hated her.If the mixer is supplied by the venue you seriously have to look into this. Going to Roberto Fonseca tonight and if it's the same i'am really going to shake a tree. Bob H. Also why can't I talk to managment no... More

Went to a concert with a string quartet - the acoustics were excellent. We sat on row E in the stalls with excellent views of the stage - perfect distance from the stage. The place is an amazing new, large space with very high ceilings and carved wood covering all walls, the ceilings, the light fittings - it is everywhere.... More

Worst experience ever. Never again! My advice, stay away from the Melbourne Recital Centre! Rude staff and management.
