We've just travelled from Sydney down the Hume Highway through Geelong to Torquay and along the Great Ocean Road (GOR) as far as Warrnambool and back again to Sydney. We drove our own car and took 6 days for the trip. We'd always wanted to do it, but it was only after driving California's Pacific Coast Highway 1 (Big Sur)... more

The Great Ocean Road is a beautiful drive that is almost on par with such spectacular drives as the Hai Van Pass in central Vietnam but without the dramatic hairpin curves & cloud-catching mountaintop views. I suppose the point of climax is the Twelve Apostles, a group of limestone stacks that have been carved by wind & water erosion over... more

Why it is under "Victoria" I guess now I understand. The city is very Victorian style. Apart from nice spots in downtown, you will be stunned by great spots along the Great Ocean Road. Now I also understand, why it is named "The Great Ocean Road". Check them yourself, and this can be your next travel destination. more

We only spent a full day travelling along along the Great Ocean Road but it was a wonderful day out. Starting early about 7.30am we headed out through Geelong with rolling storm clouds keeping us company. Torquay next is a pretty little beachside town with nice views. I sat on the left side to get those wonderful views of beaches... more

Every evening after sunset, fairy penguins come ashore at the Twelve Apostles beach. You can't get down to beach level but you can watch from the lookouts. We asked about this at the tourist info place at Port Campbell and they let us know about the equipment loan system, I think it runs for other tourist info sites along the... more

If this is your first time to visit Great Ocean Road and you have only one day to see it, NEVER ever consider services offered by V/Line. Though is much cheaper than any other tour companies are offering, I bet you want to take the risk of missing the bus to any of the attractions! I have an unfortunate experience... more

I would separate the Great Ocean Road into two section. The section from Bell's Beach to the 12 Apostles is a very pretty windy drive that reminds me of the Big Sur coast in California. In other words, its great but not spectacularly great. The real "must see" beauty comes at the 12 Apostles along with the London Bridge and... more

Just finished a 1-day tour with an agent company. My tour started at 7:10am when it picked me up at my hotel, the same place it dropped at 9pm. I chose to visit Melbourne (totally 4.5 days) because of this coastline, apart from the penguins. I won't repeat how nice it is but wish to share some tips: 1. If... more
