A quaint, but fully functioning theatre that rates as one of the oldest in Australia. Theatre Royal is a joy to explore. If you get a chance to take a tour, do it. So many things one never sees when you attend a play or event. And, if you are in town when one of the many events are staged... More

We were alerted to this Theatre when we passed on the red double decker bus and so we booked a swing concert in the afternoon and were very pleased to find ourselves in a good ol fashion theatre with excellent acoustic properties. our seats were perfect and the performance was great. it is so nice that the city has kept... A beautiful, elegant and intimate theatre. The theatre Royal has old world charm great acoustic. The red velvet seats are very comfy to sit in to watch a show. The amazing stair case is breath taking. If you are going to watch a show I recommend sitting in the premium seats it costs a little more but well worth the... More

For a little bit of olde world elegance and charm, the Theatre Royal is gorgeous. With the beautiful lighting, wallpaper, staircase and its bygone era curtains, its a little of history. Such a beautiful building and you can imagine what shows, plays etc they had many years ago.

A stunning small and intimate theatre with great atmosphere and an old world charm. Seats are quite comfortable and the staff are always warm and friendly. Good choice of shows and I recommend downstairs towards the front. When booking seats it is best to check you are not seated in front of a pillar.

This was our second visit to this venue so the first visit wasn't just "good luck" it really is a nice place to see and hear a live show. At intermission we were able to buy refreshments (an acceptable Tasmanian whie wine in our case). Car parking was easy at a nearby car park in Market Street though there is... More

A fascinating theatre with a very interesting and colourful history. Built in the undesirable part of town, amongst the brothels, factories and public housing, there is still evidence of a seedier time, including the bar located below the ground floor seating. The theatre has undergone many changes over the past 150 years, including additional stage room and dressing rooms, and... More

A beautiful building, with an outstanding interior. Small and compact, but comfortable seats, and very helpful staff.

This is a magnificent Theatre , one of the nicest ones I have ever been to. The acoustics are amazing and chairs comfortable. Catch a show here, you will love it.
