The Theatre Royal is a lovely quaint little theatre. It has a lovely atmosphere that seems to take you back in time. We saw Celtic Illusion which was ok but the theatre was definitely the star of the show.

This is a fantastic little historic theatre, obviously you want to avoid the really cheap seats up in the gods, especially if you suffer from vertigo but this is a great place for a whole range of shows

This is a beautiful old theatre where you can take in a drink to sip as you view. Since it was renovated it has only side aisles so watch your seating and if in the middle of a row arrive in plenty of time so end seated patrons are not inconvenienced.

This is the oldest theatre in Australia. I sat up in the gods on the night that Dr Bob BROWN (Greenie/conservationist/most principled man of politics [retired] in Australia) spoke about his latest book: "Optimism"! Refurbished - the theatre - after a fire some years back - it has that intimacy within its three tiers of galleries of such smaller continental... More

I love the Theatre Royal - Australia's oldest running theatre, it's a gorgeous building with quite a past.(in the mid-1800s, if the performance was dull there was always the pub and bordello under the stage!). But it would only be something of a curiosity if it wasn't such a great venue to see live performances. The acoustics are first class,... More

Elegant old lady of a building, atmospheric. Went to see a comedy gig - booking staff courtous & helpful, as were front of house staff. Pop into the bar & bistro next door for pre-show drinks - and after show drinks! Enjoyable experience - support events in this venue!

Attended the 1836 "divine dream of a theatre" with my sister-in-law in Hobart. It was a delightful taste of musical theatre evening as part of the Festival of Voices in Hobart in July. Totally entertaining and would love to return in November to see Brett Budgeon in Jesus Christ Superstar!

This theatre is one of the hidden gems of Australia. It is small, beautifully ornate and seeing a show in there seems like you are being taken back in time. Vey much worth taking your best friend for dinner and a show in Hobart.
