Hubby and I saw the 2015 Uni Revue on May 12. The show was as expected and full of the usual excellent comedy and clothing. We just loved it. The only downfall is how close you sit to others. I felt really squashed in. I couldn't move my arms without hitting the person next to me. We sat on the... More

Surviving a fire that might have been disastrous in the 1980s and perennial funding problems, the Hobart Theatre Royal is the oldest and most beautiful surviving theatre in Australia. Excellently-led guided tours are available regularly at a small cost. Participants are taken front and back stage and into the dressing room used by Laurence Olivier in 1948.

The theatre Royal is an amazing building, built in 1834-36 by the family of Hugh Macintosh and Peter Degraves. Interesting that the founders of Cascade Brewery, Australia's oldest brewery, should also be responsible for the oldest operating theatre in Australia it is incredible to sit in and the atmosphere is amazing and intimate. I wish that they would put some... More

The guided tour allows visitors to go on stage and view Australia's oldest working theatre from a performer’s perspective, as well as entry to the backstage areas, including the green room and dressing rooms. Our guide was engaging and informative, and connected the story of the site to the many characters that have been central throughout its history. The tour... More

We have been here a number of times. You can generally see well from any seat in the theatre. It has a great old world charm.

Australia's oldest theatre - step back in time in this impeccably preserved building - it still retains original elegance and beauty. Step into this theatre and imagine a time of years gone by - but still be thrilled by how it beautifully it fits into today's theatre scene This will be one of the best theatre experiences you will ever... Very nice theatre, comfy seats for old theatre, not too low down. Beautiful inside, lovely acoustics and very pretty & ornate inside. The Jesus Christ Superstar Musical was fantastic. Very excellent performance, worth driving over 250km for !! Loved the modern take on parts of it, with the smartphone use and King Herod as a Rapper was very clever and... More

I purposely booked myself into this wonderful theater to see Jesus Christ, Superstar. I was very glad I was able to experience this play in the small, intimate venue of such historical significance. I had done quite a bit of reading about the theater prior to going there for the play, so as I looked around, I realized the information... More
