The Shot Tower is a beautiful and a historic building that has a lot of character. Most of all, the treck up the creaky, old and very thin timber steps to the top was exciting and nerve racking! Although the view from the top is spectacular and well worth the initial terror of the stairs on the way up. You... More

This was something that I wasn't prepared for. I thought tht it would be a couple of hundred steel stairs up to the top... Little did I know that they were not steel stairs but they were actually thin wooden stairs that flexed underfoot. I basically ran to the top where you get to see the most amazing view the... More

The view from the top is worth the climb up the 200+ stairs. The video history before the climb was very informative.

Stairs, stairs and stairs. I can't imagine how the workers climbed them daily with buckets of lead. Amazing views and lovely staff only too happy to help us with inquiries of other destinations.

Be prepared to take a bit of time to read and see the history including the fantastic views from the top. Worth the climb.

I've climbed the shot tower at Taroona - 40 years ago. This time I stopped to take a photograph - it all looks prettier now than I remember it then. I hear that a couple from Victoria now own/run it - busier than ever with visitors/tourists. A gift shop/tea room attached!

Set in a botanical block - walk up the stairs to the top - a little hairy but worth the trouble - views marvellous - watch the video of the history and workings.

I had no idea what this place was, luckily my husband did otherwise we would not have visited. What a fascinating place! And all this time I thought shot was made by pouring hot stuff into moulds! Hehe. We managed to do the climb to the top - it was a long way up the old wooden staircase. For all... More

I found out what a shot tower was - before I did not realise it was a place where lead shot was made for shotguns. The lead had to be dropped from a great hight - hence the tower. An old building along the scenic coast road, which was a treat in itself. There was a gilt shop there, friendly... More
