Hobart and all it had to offer is very unique. The locals you can tell a mile off as they have a curiosity about them, we were passing through on a cruise and I think thats where there main tourists come from.It reminds me of some of the south Island N.Z not having changed much in decades.Dont expect buzzing fashion central... There has been a lot of talk from small business about how the CBD is struggling in Hobart. A lot of this has been blamed on the lack of Myer. As a mother of a small child, it really irritates me that I can not fit my small pram (and I mean small, there was not way I was going... More

I did find personalized ink pens for souvenirs in Hobart at an affordable price. Clothing in Australia is very expensive, even if, they look unappealing. All of the stores I went in seemed to cater to the young people with short dresses, see-thru blouses, and skin-tight leggings. Nothing much for over 50 crowd.

The market takes place every Saturday, right downtown Hobart, almost next to the Salamanca Inn. When we were there , there was also an art festival taking place and the whole place was one colorful spot full of fun, food and very good things to buy. This is a must see and experience; there is live music everywhere and circus... More

Very basic. OK if you want to get the odd thing from Target or Myer if you don't have these stores in your own geographical area. We found it a little difficult to find a good cafe in the city centre. Don't expect Melbourne/Sydney style stores here.

Hobart is a small city compared with others in Australia and so the shopping is limited here to your average mall shops. People come to Tasmania to see the beautiful scenery and experience the outdoor life, not to shop. The prices of goods are generally more expensive than the 'mainland' (as the locals refer to the rest of Australia). The... More

We took the city bus from our hotel to downtown Hobart and down to the waterfront. There is an open-air mall and all kinds of shops and restaurants. We enjoyed just walking around to see the shops, the buildings, etc.

I have lived in cities most of my life. Moving from Sydney to Hobart... shopping is non existent. I have no heart to say that shopping here is terrible because I now live in this beautiful city. The whole shopping experience in my opinion is made up of the going into a shop and having the opportunity to browsing, and... More

It is a lovely little place to walk around and shop, make sure you get out of the mall as there is so many good shops and boutiques in the side streets.

Made it up to the city, and was surprised by the quality of the shops. But I guess these are tough times...Would have thought that some would try a little harder to stand out from the rabble.
