We have been staying at Portsea Place, Battery Point. Battery Point is a great suburb to base yourself. Walking distance to Salamanca, Hobart in general and a great variety of restaurants. Beautiful old homes to see when walking the back streets of Battery Point.

Time is the essence of Battery Point and it is best to take time to explore the streets and lanes, stop for a coffee, dwell on the vistas and see what time has bequeathed in architectural gems that remain a living museum. Allow 2-3 hours for the quick exploration.

We walked most of Battery Point on two walks, once as a couple and once with friends. There are many historic buildings and homes to see but do not miss Arthur's Circus.

I liked the historical buildings. When you go up through Kelly Steps you will see a coffe shop named Jackson. The cakes are delicious there. You will see also the old town. The house are so beautiful and the gardens were flowering when I was there in December.

A charming place for a walk on the historic side, Battery Point is full of early Australian architecture. It's a little hilly, but well worth the visit to view some traditional Hobart housing and check out the bakery there.

The area is picturesque, however there are a little number of restaurants and other facilities to make the point attractive enough

It's on a hill, about 5-10 mins walk from Salamanca. Lots of lovely old buildings in a place full of narrow streets. Had a few cafes there and enjoy a cup of afternoon tea in the relaxed environment.

We loved walking around Battery Point, the oldest suburb of Hobart. There so many quaint little houses and fabulous views. We had breakfast at Pollen cafe one morning and coffee and cakes at another cafe the next afternoon. A walk around Battery Point is like stepping back in time

Spend nearly 5 hours walking around here and was amazed at the way it has been preserved. The council has put a walking trail along the foreshore giving information on the ship building and the history of the area, well done. The houses are superb and Arthurs circus is a place not to be missed.

Really enjoyed the serenity of this place. We pretty much walked around the area and found ourselves really captivated by the whole ambiance of this area. The beautiful architecture that surrounds it and numerous heritage listed properties that gave us informations relevant to how it was discovered, built-in and developed. The view from here is pretty amazing too. Worth a... More
