Unlike The Rocks in Sydney, Battery Point has not suffered the ravages of the developer and you can wander amongst original houses from the early colonial days of Hobart.

Definitely spend a few hours walking around this area. The houses are incredible and the little shops and pubs are definitely worth a visit.

I walk through Battery Point on most visits to Hobart. I love its buildings, history, steep streets and beautiful views. There is such a range of architecture from the grand to the humble and it's so good to see these buildings being loved, lived in and cared for. Favourite spots: Arthur's Circus (always) and on my latest vist - the... More

The church tower from a distance gives historic Battery Point - all Georgian/early Victorian homes - a decidedly Italianate feel. Battery Point has to be my favourite part of Hobart. The architecture ranges from beautiful little cottages that have stepped out of Ireland and wales to Georgian grace and Large Victorian mansions. The roads are left as heritage with soft curves and hills. With every passing person there is a friendly greeting and a smile. A view of the Derwent... More

Great historic area to walk around and have a coffee. Magnificent backdrop to Mt Wellington. Half an hr is enough to have a good look around and its a short walk up from the Salamanca area.
