I thoroughly enjoyed my night out at the State Cinema with my partner recently. We went to an evening session and found the cinema staff very welcoming. One thing that i loved the most was that you were free to grab a glass of wine or beer and take it around with you into the cinema or even around the... More

The cinemas are a great size and seems a more grown up audience so you know you can enjoy the movie in peace. Prices of drink and food is a little high but not unexpected for a movie theatre.

The air-conditioning was very hot which made the theatre quite uncomfortable. It would be useful if we were advised that the film was almost sold out - three of us were in different areas of the theatre, otherwise only the front row was available, very close to the screen.

This theatre is in a great location and is more a destination than a theatre. A very tasteful space with a really relaxed atmosphere. Front of house has been converted into a place where you can just vege if you want to. The coffee here is well above average, so if you like several hits of caffeine to pump you... More

If you're after a cinema with no kids, alcohol and yummy treats this is the place to go! Unfortunately for my wife, they don't serve popcorn! :-(

Personal place where you can watch an art house movie in comfort with a coffee or wine in hand. Restaurant attached to the State Cinema is fantastic - their cakes are to die for. The carrot cake is one of the best I've had and the serving are very generous. My favourite cinema place and I have yet to try... More

Best place to see a film in Hobart. Avoid the queues, screaming children, and generally tacky venues of Village cinemas and do yourself a favour by visiting the State Cinema. Best part is the comfy couches, while being served hot coffee and snacks by the helpful staff.

Very friendly staff and a lovely old theatre. Well worth a look. Cinemas are very small though so need to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment.
