Always enjoy going here whether it be a movie, snack or browse through the book store....or all three. Good local wines on offer to accompany you into the movie is a bonus. A nice relaxed atmosphere.

The only cinema I know where you can ring ahead and they wil hold your tickets until 15 mins prior to the session start. Great food and wine, comfy cinema seats and friendly people. What's not to like about that? If I ever happen to be in Hobart in summer, I'll be sure to try the outdoor cinema on the... More

Boutique 7 screen movie house with great cafe where you can take your drink into the movies. Separate bookstore and cafe. Right on the North Hobart restaurant strip for a good meal before or after. Quality venue, roof top outdoor cinema in the summer and absolutely unique. Always worth a visit - even when it is sunny!

We always enjoy The State. Coffee beforehand, a good movie, and lunch afterwards in their cafe. Then browes in the Book Shop. A great day out.

We regularly visit the State Cinema on North Hobart. There are a number of cinema's in the complex all showing different films. You can purchase drinks from the bar and take them in with you to consume while viewing your chosen film - all very civilised! The cinema's are very comfortable and being in the North Hobart restaurant strip when... More

A relaxed atmosphere for a nice meal before attending the theatre. A good choice on the menu and if you choose you can just have coffee.

The State Cinema has it all. Great alternative cinema for lovers of arthouse, foreign and non Hollywood films. Licensed, so take your wine/drinks in with you. Nine cinemas including a roof top one for summer nights, small cinemas with lounges, all cosy and intimate. The cafe is a popular meeting place for us locals, even without attending a film. Beautiful... More

Love, love the State cinema and all that it offers - food, wine, bookstore, film selection etc. However my biggest gripe is with some of the patrons who seem to think this is their personal theatre and can talk through films, eat/drink noisily and arrive late to a screening. I am a regular at this venue and have witnessed this... More

You can make a real afternoon of going to the State Cinema in North Hobart. It is situated amongst the strip of lovely restaurants, you could choose to meet there prior to going to the Cinema or eat there. There is a beautiful Cafe at the back with old black and white movies running in the background. The food is... More

Old school cinema with a wine bar. Mainstream and arty films in a lovely cinema. If you go to the cinema go here.
