This by far would be the best time I have ever had at a cinema. We visited on a weeknight to watch Son of a Gun which was a great Australian movie (I found it interesting). We had the cinema to ourselves which made the experience great. Two tickets and two large glasses of wine will cost approximately $60 but... More

Nice seating, small cinemas and a nice building you can also purchase wine to drink while watching your movie.... $18 per adult ticket and $16 for a student.

We went to the opening night of the Italian Film festival, so I can't really consider it an everyday experience. However I did find the cafe out the back to be cosy and comfortable. As we were part of a private function we didn't get a chance to try the food, but it looked good enough to consider going back... More

If you are a traveller, The State is worth visiting so that you can say you have been. The tickets are on the dear side for a movie, and the food is not what I would call great. It can also be hard to get a park in North Hobart. They do, however, have a good range of unique movies.... More

Great atmosphere here with food, wine etc available but also close enough to the trendy cafes and wine bars of North Hobart. There is also an interesting book shop adjoining the cinema. My only criticism was the rudeness by the staff checking tickets on entry. We were not the only recipients of the rebuke when a misunderstanding of their procedures... More

Go to the movies and enjoy this terrific cafe, or just pop in for a snack with friends. The service is great too.

It is with some sadness & shock at the most discourteous & unprofessional service & treatment my partner & I received today that i write this. Being in our 60s & polite, kind & courteous people ourselves we were dismayed by the rudeness & lack of concern & consideration expressed by the staff & even the owner when they mixed... More

What a success story. Restored, expanded and great facilities - food, drink, books, and of course cinema. There is always something showing of interest and bookings can be made on line. And the audience is mature and behaves in a mature fashion, even when they take a glass of wine in!

Good food, great atmosphere and superb films! An "artsy"" atmosphere and great ambience for an art movie theatre.
