On our first visit to the State Cinema we also discovered the licensed cafe and had a great meal overlooking North Hobart before going into the cinema for our picture. On a subsequent visit, I just had coffee and cake and that was just as enjoyable. The cinema is on the North Hobart restaurant strip so if you want something... More

The cinema was great but the infant crying on and off throughout the whole movie was very distracting. We took our first born with us too, but we took the baby out of the theatre when she cried - a little consideration please!

Great little cinema in North Hobart that shows the kind of movies I like (indie, art house), has good range of food and drink and lets you take a drink such as a glass of wine into the cinema. Very civilised movie house

Sound and video quality were amazing, the seats were comfortable, and the tickets were fairly priced. The snacks and beverages were of a higher caliber than most theaters, including wine and beer as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

I have never reviewed a cinema online before. We had booked our tickets online but, being on holidays, had no printer. So we scanned the bar code, but this was not enough. Maybe a fault of VenueTickets, but frustrating process. Just finished in time to grab a glass of wine to go inside (no bottles allowed). By this time, all... More

I have absolutely nothing positive to say about our dealings with this company. Our phone booking for a movie was messed up. The floor manager was rude to us when we arrived for the movie. Our friends had rude service in the cafe, by the same floor manager we had dealt with. My dealings on the phone trying to speak... More

I love this cinema. Very intimate, a lovely way to see a movie. $18 per ticket but happy to pay for such a lovely old cinema in a great location.

Want to see a movie while in Hobart? Then head up to North Hobart to the State Cinema. A lovely old, independent cinema - with the most interesting bookshop in Hobart attached to it. You can eat something light at the cinema or at one of the many good restaurants lining the strip. Buy a glass of wine to sip... More
