Our group found this a worthwhile and very interesting historical site to visit. The account of HER STORY gave an insight into the history of the female convicts who arrived in Tasmania, an account of how they lived and were treated. Would recommend to those visiting the area to take the time to visit the Female Factory and listen to... More

Don't miss this wonderful experience. Learn more about the Female Factory through the Actors (fantastic) who take you back to the time of arrivals of females to Tasmania.

My husband and I did the guided tour first. The guide made it all very interesting. There is actually not much to see, Only some outside walls, but inside buildings and walls are marked on the ground. It is tHe guide who brings the history to life. I strongly recommend the guided tour as opposed to a general admission. After... More

We just done a self guided tour and as it was was related to my families heritage we enjoyed it and the hand out guide was helpful. I do not know how interesting it would be if you had no connection to it.

This site gives life to an important part of Hobart's history. There actually isn't a lot left of the original buildings but they bring it to life with the tour dramatising what it would have been like. It is well presented with information readily available.

Great value. The drama presentation brings the life of female convicts atCascades to life and is very worthwhile, as are the informative guided tours. In the shop I purchased a number of books on the history of convicts that I had not previously seen. Anyone interested in Australia's colonial history or with convict ancestors will be enriched by visiting Cascades.

Empty walls for some if they did not join in the Louisa Walk & understand the story of this place. Much more appreciated after we did so.

Set in beautiful surroundings, one can image why this spot was chosen to house female convicts. Visited to attempt to find more information on a great-grandmother. They have a comprehensive list of all those who went through the doors. Although this didn't help solve my mystery just added another piece to the puzzle. Very affordable, the cottage displays are excellent.... More

The site is generally a reproduction with limited structures however the interpretations is really good. The actual Matrons cottage is a great exhibition. There is sufficient history here to let you understand how harsh life can be and was for the women of the colony. A short cab ride from the city, makes the entry cost very worth while. We... More
