We went on the popeye launch when we visited Adelaide on our honeymoon.....many many years ago...... Imagine my surprise to see them still running and we just had to hop in! The leisurely cruise up and down the Torrens river along the banks from the weir to the zoo was a lovely way to spend some down time in Adelaide.... More

did this on New Years Day. So nice to sit on the water and slowly travel around the Torrens Lake. Some great commentary from the driver (I think his name was Tony) with some things about around the lake that as a local were news to me.

Take a trip on this little boat and see the River Torrens at a snails pace! The commentary is knowledgeable and the sights of parks, walkways and people relaxing by the river is calming. Catch this boat to the Zoo (though some sort of signposting to get there is required).

This was a great way to spend some time viewing parts of the city from a new angle. The commentary was very informative and full of little titbits. We were travelling with elderly parents, including one in a wheel chair, and the crew couldn't have done more to assist them on board and make them comfortable.

A short walk from the fume filled railway station is the Popeye boat. 45 minutes of delight, just enough greenery to prepare you to face bungalow world on the way back to outer harbour station.

The Popeye launch is a good way to check the sights from the river. Trip takes about 40 minutes return, at $15 return a little pricey, commentary was informative, close to the Zoo and Adelaide oval.

Quite a short cruise, although it does take you as far as you can go so they can't make it any longer. I thought it was ok and I'd recommend it to people as it's a cool way to see the river and you get a good view of the city.

My title says it all really. For the distance we travelled we felt it was overpriced. The "captain" couldn't be bothered with any real commentary other than thats the Boat Club and this is the Weir etc and was more interested in texting on his phone. I'm quite interested in architecture and was very disappointed at the lack of information.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip on Popeye. Tony, our host and captain, was pleasant, informative and had a lovely voice. His commentary was interesting and the views delightful.

It's an Adelaide institution and I had travelled on the boat as a child, so had to go back now that I a 'bit older'. It was a nice way to get to the zoo and a good way to view the city from the river
