Visited sept 2014. It was our first visit to Australia and as we were travelling around Queensland fell upon this sanctuary. Easy place to find on the Bruce Highway just south of Townsville. Free parking and reasonable admission fees considering the animal and reptile displays and the informative chats by the Rangers. We were greeted by dozens of friendly kangaroos... More

Great place. Loads of kangaroos to hand-feed. Animals were easy to see in enclosures. Shows/feedings/meet-and-greets were well timed. I LOVED that you could get a photo of yourself and/or kids holding the wombat, koala, or snake. That's something I have always wanted to do, and it was very reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly and informed. Limited food at cafe.... More

I'll be honest. There isn't much to do in Townsville, but this place is great! Last time I was here the highlight for me was being surrounded by all the kangaroos begging for food but when I went up last week there were hardly any around :( I still had fun feeding and patting the few that were around. And... More

One of the best places to visit in Townsville. A chance to see, pat and cuddle some of you're favorite Aussie animals. The talks are great, detailed and entertaining with well cared for animals.

There are enough enclosures and live animal shows/presentations to fill half a day or more. As four adults, we were there from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. We were able to pat the dingoes, a 22kg hand-reared bare nosed wombat and a koala. Most shows were held once each in the morning and afternoon and running every 15 -30 mins with a... More

The visit to Billabong Sanctuary was a very enjoyable visit and would recommend. To make the most of your visit ensure to get a copy of the times for the talks, feeding and show times. There are plenty of talks by very informative staff, feeding times and photo opportunities. The billabong sees a lot of birdlife which is great. Kangaroos... More

We really enjoyed our visit. So far, the best place to see wild animals that we've been in Australia. Staff is really friendly and they know quite a lot about the animals in the sanctuary. Some animals (kangaroos, ducks, birds) hang around free in the park which is really nice. Is good to see these wild animals in a 'not... More

Our daughter, who lives in Queensland, had heard about the Billabong Sanctuary and, as we were staying in Townsville overnight, decided to visit. What an excellent experience. The whole site seemed so natural and unspoilt with kangaroos and an emu wandering around, waterfowl trying snatch the food from the kangaroos and very friendly staff. Of particular interest was the demonstration... More
