Owner description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

If you're looking for a place to experience the Great Barrier Reef, tropical rainforests, and load of fun in Australia, Port Douglas is the place go. Located just an hour north of the Cairns airport and about the same distance south of Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas is right in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest area and only minutes from... Loved the beaches the ocean was hot like a bath! Lots of restaurants but they seem to shut early; we travelled late December so maybe it wasn't really in season. A great place to access the Aboriginal sites and explore the equatorial forest. Yes there are stingers in the water but there is a safe bathing area. Saw lots of... More

This was my 5th time in Port Douglas. Had 7 nights this time around. First time in 6 years hubby and I had a holiday due to bereavements. It was very very steamy as off peak and summer. Very hospitable people and unpretentious. Yes it can be pricey depending on where you eat. Eateries worth visiting are On the Inlet... More

Stayed in Port Douglas for a week with my partner. Its a lovely town and everyone is so friendly there. Al though it would be easier to get to places with a car and not the shuttle bus, There isn't much taxi there either. The weather was Very hot and humid, didn't have a day or time that was cold.... A very beautiful place - great shopping, terrific restaurants and cafes; wonderful resorts and the harbour is well worth finding a boat to sail around. A good base to see the Daintree as well.

Well kept, more up-market I suppose, busy little place, lots of little shops, massage, restaurants, pubs, eateries, supermarket, all in one long street which stretches to the beach. Beach not wonderful, unkempt needs a clean up but need to keep an eye out for crocs. Good for a few days away. Only an hours drive away from Cairns. Everyone bit... More

We went to Port Douglas one evening and enjoyed reasonably priced nice burgers in a cafe before going on to a bar where live music was being played. The atmosphere everywhere we went was good and happy and an evening there is time well spent.

We visited Port Douglas in December. Small, quaint town with very friendly people. Nice shopping area and wonderful restaurants. Everything is in close proximity.
