Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access. « less

Great location in tropical North Queensland for a relaxing week. Lots of restaurants and pubs for food. Two large supermarkets in the area for buying provisions for the week if you get a self catering apartment. Lots of accommodation of all types are available. Walk around town, along the beach, up to the lookout and down to the marina. It's... More

Port Douglas and its surroundings is absolutely beautiful. We didn't have the best weather and yes we got stuck in some road work traffic but not once did we think that it spoilt Port Douglas. We were expecting expensive but it is the same as the Gold Coast in terms of food prices. We hired a car and drove up... More

Drove from Palm Cove to Port Douglas for the Sunday market which was worth it. Lots of stalls and refreshing cold sugar cane drinks. Nice day trip. PD is much busier than Palm Cove so we were much happier we chose the latter for our accommodation

It's a cute little town with just enough of everything. If you are looking for a quick vacation spot this is a nice place. Not too touristy.

This has been our second visit to Port Douglas and loved it as much as our first. The place has changed only a little since our last visit but still the quaint small town we remember it as. Great beach, great restaurants and two great tours with Sailaway afternoon sail and Tony's Tropical Tours to the Daintree Rainforest. We find... More

Never having been to Port Douglas we didn't really know what to expect. It was brilliant. We rented at house in Solander area and had a 2 minute walk to 4 mile beach. We were up early every morning, witnessed the sunrise on many occasions and ran up the beach and back, finishing off with a quick dip into the... More

After a working visit in 2013, I enjoyed Port Douglas so much I bought the family back for a visit this July. So delicious to spend winter soaking up the sun and the delights of this glorious region.

The town is one of the best in Aust it is really geared up to receive tourists! the restaurants staff are friendly the shops are just as friendly offering genuine advice! The people ( tourists) are in their best behaviuor everyone seems happy and enjoying their time with each other. May be the weather has something to do with it.
