Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access. « less

This is a wonderful place to visit - you have the beech one side of you and the tropical rain forest the other. It has been a few years since I visited here but I am looking forward to going back and there aren't many places that I would say that about.

Lots to do and a perfect base for Far North Queensland Adventure. You have all the amenities there to be comfortable and well fed. Totally geared up for helping the tourists (especially families) September is the perfect month for warmth, swimming and comfort.

One of the best places to go when relaxing is on your mind. Enjoy the beautiful beach all day, and the charming city life by night. Make sure to visit the marina too, and enjoy a late lunch at one of the many alternative restaurants.

There were road repairs going on at the time of staying which made getting in and out town a little more difficult. The town had a decent size Coles so self catering was not a problem. There was the usual mix of souvenir and beach clothing shops but was a pleasant stroll up and down the street. Plenty of choices... More

I cant fault Port Douglas as a tropical, safe, totally relaxing place to spend a holiday. It is a very affordable place to visit you just have to do your homework and use your experience when choosing things like eating venues, tourist attractions and entertainment. I would highly recommend Port Douglas, but if you don't come for a visit, this... More
