The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast.Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access. « less

Port Douglas is a great place to base yourself to get to the reef and Daintree. Great restaurants, there is a large Coles supermarket if you have a self contained apartment. A quaint town with much to do. Put it on your list of things to do. You won't be disappointed.

So glad that recent cyclone Ita did not do too much damage to this tropical jewel in far North Queensland. We can't wait to get back and lay back by the poolside at QT Resort and visit all out favorite haunts. This place is a definite must see on your holiday agenda.

The town has a great village atmosphere and everything you need is within walking distance. There's the obligatory beach for walking (pity about the stingers restricting swimming) there's restaurants to suit every taste and budget and, if you don't go anywhere else the whole deal is great. The moment you wish to go on any excursion the price is as... More

Port Douglas is the swankier relation to Cairns...classier, quieter, laid back but smart. There are some lovely places to eat, lovely places to walk. Check out Four Mile Beach and enjoy a swim ...in the stinger enclosure of course. Even the impending Cyclone Ita couldn't put us off.

A very "clean" town with many well set up resorts and shops. Not much character, but if what you want is a good location to base yourself and take trips out, then this is it. As our preference is to go off the beaten track, we didnt spend much time here other han to have an ice cream and a... More

Port Douglas is so laid back its easy to relax, the high street is full of shops restaurants and bars. There is also two very good Ice cream shops. Nothing is far away... More

We spent some time in Port Douglas for our youngest son's wedding and we found it a perfect spot to relax, enjoy some great restaurants, and just a short hop out to the Daintree forest or the Great Barrier Reef. The weather was perfect, if not a little humid, but that's what pools are for!! Definately have a meal at... More

I knew that Port Douglas was famous for the Reef and nearby rain forests, but didn't realise what an interesting history the village had. I visited the Court House museum the other day ( open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays 10am -1pm) and got quite a start at seeing the life size models of the judge, accused etc as they... I really like the holiday vibe. The beach is amazingly beautiful and Port Douglas is a great spot to depart for reef tours from. We stayed for four days and i would definitely go back.
