Description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas...
Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

Booked to stay in Port Douglas as part of trip to Great Barrier Reef as well as having a bit of R & R towards the end of a hectic tour of Australia. Climate warm and not too hot, beach breezy but great to walk along and certainly not overcrowded. More or less one Main Street with shops and restaurants but... More

I love Port Douglas because it has a very laid back atmosphere. Everyone here is in holiday mode. Whilst it is a tourist destination it doesn't have that frantic 'hustle you along' feel about it. The weather is lovely and so strolling down the street at night to your favourite restuarant in the warm air, checking out cafe's along the... More

Sleepy sort of town with quite expensive restaurants and many with average service. Expectations were high but glad that we only booked 4 nights and not 2 weeks as not that much to do unless you do a reef tour and try a few restaurants. The beach is not that inviting in April with strong onshore winds and the threat... More

With it being the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, most of the attractions are boat trips and as it was raining when we arrived, we thought we would venture further up the coast to explore. We ended up going all the way to Port Douglas which we had previously been recommended by friends and family. This was a beautiful... More

Beautiful! Loved it, will be back, maybe permanently! The main street is full of good food, loved the locals. Excellent all round.

A very nice place to stay with lots of things to do from walking to shopping to touring. I personally prefer Port Douglas to Cairns. A great little market on Sundays.

Loved Port Douglas for the last five years, this time it seems to have priced itself out of the market. You are looking at close to $800 for a day trip to the reef for 2 adults and 2 children. Locals are still lovely though and the beaches are great.

Spent a week here as part of an Australian / Mid East tour and loved every moment. Weather was great - too hot sometimes- but great for Barrier Reef visits. An excellent centre for rainforest touring as well as Barrier visits / water sports and sailing. A fabulous range of eating places and pubs - not too outrageously expensive particularly... More
