Description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas...
Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

Fantastic Place to Finish a Trip to Oz

Great place to chill out. Plenty to do with some great restaurants and night life. Base for a Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest

Total relaxation day or night with balmy temperatures day and night. Not too crowded and full of interesting cafes and restaurants to spice up your stay ....in particular "Salsa" the restaurant will knock your socks off with its flavoursome food and fantastic staff

HOT, Far North Queensland destination. Very touristy and many prices reflect that (over-priced), BUTl you CAN buy RARE items there, like crocodile handcrafts, which come with paperwork to import overseas.

Everyday hundreds of people walk along Port Douglas's 4 mile beach. It takes about 2 hours to walk to the tip and back. Beautiful walk with the rainforest going right up to the edge of the beach. No resorts, shops or restaurants to be seen. Wear walking shoes as 9 km in bare feet or thongs is not a good... More

Beautiful beach town along spectacular "4 mile beach", Port Douglas could be a destination in itself with its various shops, cafes, restaurant and its nice marina. But it is also a great stepping stone to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the luxuriant Daintree forest (with its crocodiles and pristine beaches!)

Visited Port Douglas for a wedding- so beautiful. June is perfect time of year to visit and escape Melbourne's gloomy weather! Mid 20's everyday and no stingers in the water!

Port Douglas is a a holiday town for all ages and has plenty of things to do or see. Carnivale week is a good time to go. This is the time (may 22-end of month) we went. Every one is so friendly and the pace is casual. There are lots of excellent eating places and some have entertainment as well.... More
