Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access. « less

This is a lovely little beach resort town. You can walk to almost anywhere. The beach is lovely. Some of the restaurants and shops were a little pretentious and not very friendly. There is a lovely market on Sunday mornings.

Port Douglas is a beautiful town, with great access to activities, restaurants and relaxation! Most restaurants breakfasts cost between $16 - $24, plenty of lunch offers (seems to be the most competitive meal time) at between $10 - $20... Good three course dinner with drink is on average $65 per person. PD also has plenty of activities such as microlight... More

This is a town that depends on the Reef. Quicksilver tours to the reef provided an excellent experience. The town is cute, two streets, heaps of restaurants and is worth experiencing.

A great place to visit but expensive for what you get. I do prefer Palm Cove as it's quieter and a little more quaint. More to do in Port Douglas.
