Owner description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

One of my favourite towns in Autralia with easy access to the reef and the rainforest. Quite but with lots going on if you just ask around.

this is a lovely casual beach side town that makes for a great base for the reef. Lovely harbor. Not to be missed

I stayed 5 days in Port Douglas and while it was the off-season when I went, it was very pleasant. The beach is beautiful, although you can't swim there in summer because of the jellyfish. It's a great base camp for attractions like the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest, and Kuranda. It's much prettier than Cairns and I'm quite glad... More

This is a lovely town with much to do. The markets are held on Sundays and are quite the experience. Be weary in the summer months, the heat and humidity will be great, so be sure to bring sunscreen and some water.

This is a beautiful area. In the winter I can see how it would be great. But in Feb it is too hot and humid. There are lots of nice restaurants and shops to browse. Lot of available trips out of this town rather than Cairns.

Our visit was in the low season so a lot of shops etc. were closed. However we found what we needed in the clean, compact centre of town. We thought Port Douglas was a lovely place to stay.

Stayed here last year. Lovely climate and beautiful surroundings. The surrounds of Port Douglas are well kept and the locals welcome tourists. The local tours we did were well organised. The only negative was that the resort swimming pool (Ramada) was too cold for swimming. I will be back to Port Douglas; but at a resort that has a pool... More

If you want to sit back and relax then this is the place to do it, or if you want shop you can as the small town shops have a lot to offer, the beach was to die for, I hate the beach but I loved this one, was like a bath I even swam in it.

PD is a nice place to visit - good restaurants, beautiful scenery, plenty of activities & day trips BUT cannot understand what all of the hype is about!
