Description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas...
Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

Beautiful town for a short break

A beautiful coastal town, a couple of hours from The Daintree and less to the Barrier Reef. What's not to love? Good restaurants, pubs and a market on Sundays.

Great weather and location. Lots of food places and variety to choose from. Shopping is a bit light on but who wants to shop here when you can do all the other things.

Port Douglas is just so relaxing. It has a great feeing about it that just seems to make me feel relaxed and content. It's got really good restaurants, an excellent pub, great walks and my favourite beach. The Surf Club is worth a visit as its right on 4 mile beach for a beer and fish and chips. Port Douglas... Excellent restaurants with a lot of choice. Best time to visits is definitely in the winter as it is very hot and humid in summer

Port Douglas is a cute little town with lots of shops and restaurants to keep you well occupied. With the marina on the one end of town with lots of tours to the reef or four mile beach on the other end of town, there is always lots to do. Try to make it on a Sunday to their market.... More

Loved the feel of the small town. Shopping was great with a good variety and we had some lovely meals. Everything was walking distance and I would love to go back. Hated that the beach was there and you couldn't use it for swimming, temperature was so warm coming from Tassie it seemed like such a waste.

The beach in port Douglas is long and very wild, you can walk for ages before seeing another person due to the length of the beach, very sandy beach, warm seas, the hotels ear hidden behind lush rainforest so no hotel is seen, there are excursion trips that can be arrange to go to the great barrier reef.
