Owner description: Port Douglas is the natural place to holiday in Australia. Port Douglas, once a sleepy fishing village, is 60km north from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway. The highway offers the first glimpses of this beautiful area, with stunning views across the water and along the coast. Visitors to this family-friendly, laid-back area can fish, golf, snorkel over the reef, walk through the rainforest or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches the area is known for. The area is home to over 12,000, but during the tourist seasons the number can reach over three times this amount as tourists take advantage of the tropical climate and average temperatures of 26C. Whether you want to self-drive or take advantage of one of the many tours on offer the Douglas area is easy to navigate and full of interesting attractions. Whatever the holiday there is a hotel, resort, lodge, backpackers or caravan park to suit your budget and needs and most offer pools, kids play areas and beach access.

Was a very relaxing place and had wonderful tours, everyone was very helpful and friendly. very clean and pleasant everything was close to get to. Only downer was any day trip you went on that was most of the day when you got back everything was closed (shops) only some restaurants were open. Would return here for sure

Don't go to Port Douglas please....we want it all for ourselves! 😜 Seriously though, this is a wonderful place to visit for a host of reasons. Great shops, restaurants and hotels. Reef fishing. Diving and snorkelling trips to the reef, a backdrop of tropical rainforest, a fantastic market on Sundays... try the fresh coconuts, clean and tidy streets with no fast... More

Port Douglas was a lovely little village. Surrounded by beach on one side and marina on the other, cutest little chapel, with lovely little shops in between, a pleasure to see and experience. Sunday market was fantastic. We saw a wonderful sunrise. We were there in low season so cannot vouch for the same serenity in high season!

I've lived in Cairns now for a decade and a half and I've been to Port Douglas many times. And it is slowly, slowly bleeding to death. There are still many excellent places to stay at all budget levels and a number of good restaurants. Four mile beach is also an attractive place to while away a few hours. But... More

Port Douglas is such a beautiful place. You can make it as relaxing or as adventuresome as you like. It caters for all and sundry. It doesn't have to be an expensive location either. There are budgets to suit all.

The Port Douglas township is compact and everything is easy to get to. Great shopping, good supermarket, tons of restaurants. Great service at all venues. Tons to do or you can choose to do nothing.

Loved everything. Safe to walk around. Plenty of restaurants. Pubs are easy going. Very relaxed atmosphere everywhere. Easy shopping. Has Coles supermarket. Sells everything. Even got an airbed for pool for $3.00. Cannot fault Port Douglas. Suits us down to the ground. Crocodiles inhabit the area so no swimming in the sea.

beautiful beach and plenty of parking, however, had to swim in the enclosed area because of jellyfish season. the area is enclosed by a net to keep the jellyfish away.

Port Douglas is all about tourism. It is geared up for tourists and has everything you could wish for to have an enjoyable stay. We were there for 3 nights and felt like we had a good time seeing lots of things and enjoying the restaurants. It was a good port of call on our tour of Australia
