Stayed in Port Douglas for 5 nights and really loved it. We had been advised to stay here rather than Cairns and we're glad we did. The town it's self is lovely and although only really two main shopping street it's long with a great selection of shops, restaurants and bars. Be sure to check out Gelato, the ice cream...

Lovely small town, number of good restaurants, great trips to Barrier Reef and wildlife everywhere. Keep away from Cairns - pay the transport and come up to Port Douglas - you will not be disappointed!
Port Douglas is an amazing town about a 1 hour drive from Cairns, with the wonderful four mile beach, beautiful tropical scenery, a very special place.
We were here unfortunately during a very windy time, so although we didnt do the Barrier Reef trip as planned, we had a wonderful time visiting the markets, the Habitat, going to lunch and dinners, and going on Tony's Tropical Tours. A day trip from Cairns is probably not the best way to review this place. However. A huge number of people will do just that. After all not everyone can afford to stay over in Port Douglas. Its a poor mans Noosa and the main street is a poor mans Hastings Street. If your curious make the the drive but...

Lots to do but still the country feel. Relaxing but plenty of activity. Love the Sunday markets. There are lots of Spas but the best massages are the chinese massage or the Thai women at the markets.
I love the atmosphere, the views, our accommodation, the variety of activities...the only thing is the prices of some things are a bit high.
Located just 62km from Cairns airport, Sunshine Coast and gold coast this is NOT. Buildings are limited to the tops of the treetops (3 storeys high), there is no high rise developments and has the feel of a small country tourist town without the crowds. It seems the crowds get bused in daily from Cairns and get ushered onto the...

There is something truly magical about this place, which is pretty hard to deny. Have been 3 times, and want to return. The beach is just gorgeous! The people, well most ( accepting for a very nasty crabby old lady, we encountered at Rex Smeal Park, telling my kids and I off for having fun) and the odd surly shop/restaurant person,are...
