We took the train up to Kuranda first, the ride was pretty good considering we were told that it was rough most of the way. The views of the Barron Falls were splendid. Kuranda township is quaint but overrated, mostly for tourist with same stuff sold everywhere. Some nice galleries though. The best part of the day was Skyrail, travelling... more

The cable car ride up is scenic but slow. You can get off at two stops along the way to walk into the rainforest. The "guided ranger tour" at the first stop was so crowded that we couldn't hear the guide talk, and we ended up going around the circle backwards on our own. Both stops have bathrooms. Once in... more

We did the SkyRail on quite an overcast day, but still had a great experience. The SkyRail station itself is very easy to get to. Several buses stop outside the door and there is a large free car park as well. It's a simple turn off the highway, with plenty of sign-posts and only about a 10 minute drive from... more

We got there right when they opened and were the first in line. The ride was awesome, surreal, and gives you a fresh perspective on life. The ride was worth the money and the staff was great. My wife left her camera on the ride and they found it and returned it. Worth it! more

Flown from Sydney to Cairns on Jetstar JQ0901 (as Virgin Blue DJ901 has a stop-over making a flight 3 and half hours plus leaves at 6am, and Qantas Airways QF0924 does not leave till 9:15am). Arrived to Cairns at 08:30am. Smooth 2 hour flight, very comfortable. Organised a deluxe coach transfer ($28) with Sun Palm Express from Cairns Airport to... more

My wife and I decided to take the Skyrail / Kuranda / Railroad tour on our second day in Cairns as a low-key "time zone adjustment" activity. Although we had seen reviews for this excursion as "touristy", we were actually surprised at what a nice day it turned out to be. We were picked up at our hotel and shuttled... more

I had my doubts about the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway before I booked, but it way exceeded my expectations and indeed is very good value for money. We went up to Kuranda by the Skyrail and then back by the Scenic Train. I think that the opposite might be better if you don't like endless tacky markets that Kuranda is full... more

Do this if you love nature. Views of the rain forest for miles around, and informative tour guides at each stop (2) are available. It's a relatively quiet trip, gliding through the sky. If you're in Cairns I think it's worth it. more

I took the train up and the skyrail back, and if I did it again I would take the skyrail both ways. What made it extra special was that I had an entire 'cabin' to myself so got to experience the quiet of the forest and it from every angle. You spend a long time on the skyrail - think... more

I'm surprised by all of the positive reviews. Let me start by saying this was not a terrible trip at all. My wife enjoyed it more than me. My impression is that this is for older couples/folks, or for people with young children. A train trip out and a skyrail back sounds like a great idea, but the scenery is... more
