Had been recommended this journey by our hotel and it was a cracking day out. The carriages are a nice step back in time allowing to really take in the views. Lovely insight of the history behind the line and the people who helped to build it. Really enjoyed our trip.

The ride had some good views, but overall I felt like it was overpriced. You can easily get up to Kuranda for a few bucks on a bus compared to over $40 on the train. If you do the train, only take it one way and save some money.

A very good full day tour, although I found we did not have a lot of spare time to see everything to see, had lunch at Frogs very nice and enjoyed going through Birdworld .

The cars are from the early 20th century, so expect a vintage comfort experience. The view is fabulous (as you'd expect) - and the weather wasn't even very good when we were there. The historical narrative was enough to be interesting to people like me, who like to know these things, but were not constant, so if you don't like... More

My friend, from Cairns, and I (from Louisiana, USA) took the train from Freshwater to Kuranda doing the Gold Class ticket. There were only two other couples in our car that day so made it great for taking some of the most awesome pictures! There was one stop, at the Barron Falls, so it made for some more great pics.... We took a bus up to Kuranda and then the train back down. Wonderful scenery traveling through the rainforest, crossing the bridges and waterfalls.Definately a great way to come back down the mountain.

The train trip up to Kuranda is great, awesome scenery and plenty to see when you get there - markets, animals, mini golf, cafés & restaurants, so different to down town - we spent the best part of the day there and travelled back on the gondola over the tallest trees I have ever seen!

Our second visit - this time we took the cable car on the way up and the railway down. Its a great trip marred only by the way the railway booking system works. I don't know whether its the human factor or the computer system at fault, but seats are allocated on the principle of fill from the front -... More

Took the train to Kuranda and the views were amazing. The train was only half full and would have been a tight train ride if it was full. The historical facts that were given along the route kept the trip from being just another train ride through beautiful country side.
