Description: Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda...
Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda. This spectacular experience travels over bridges and through tunnels hand-made by North Queensland's pioneers over 100 years ago. Traversing the World Heritage listed rainforest of the Barron Gorge National Park, this is one of the world's great railway journeys.

We did the morning rail trip to Kuranda and the skyrail back down. Fantastic day out. The train ride was very pleasant and interesting facts all along the trip up to Kuranda. Pleased that we did the trip in the morning as it gets really hot on the train in the afternoon we were told.Train well maintained and very pleasant... More

The scenic railway trip to Kuranda was an optional excursion offerred during our stay in Cairns. I am glad i did it. The scenery is fantastic. Lush vegetation. There is a small museum at the train station at the start of the journey in Cairns with free entrance. Its really worth visiting as you will learn about how the whole... More

This is one of the best scenic railway trips I've been on and quite a feat of Civil Engineering it must have been to build it. Look it up on the Internet and you'll get an ideal of the tropical rainforest they had to cut this through and it indicates some of the difficulties they must have overcome in the... More

This is a fantastic trip. A great journey by train. Amazing views... The journey is very interesting as you travel along there is a commentary giving amazing facts about the building of this magnificent railway line. There are about 15 tunnels to go through. The train stops for photo opportunities. Good value for money.

Booked a standard class on the way to Kuranda and the gold class return. If I was to do this again I would do gold class both ways. The cabin was fine on both trips however enjoyed the service and refreshments on the gold service. Although this is an expensive train trip its an experience. The afternoon good class had... More

Though the cabins were excellent, the train journey is not so spectacular as claimed. In many parts of world these type of journeys offer much better views.

When we visited Kuranda in Spring last year it was my third visit. The first was when I was the age my children are now and on each of those three occasions I've been lucky enough to make the journey back down to Cairns on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Not much has changed, and I'm very glad of that. I... More

This train was a fantastic scenic journey through the rainforest and mountainous areas between Katoomba and Cairns ! It's an old fashioned train and carriages adding to the experience. Katoomba station itself is beautiful. Journey stopped off a couple of places for photos and slowed right down in others. Excellent staff too. I'd suggest getting the train back down to... More

This is a truly spectacular trip. As our time was limited, we did both activities in the one day (Skyrail also) - would do it again in a heartbeat. The service by the staff in Gold Class was fantastic. Then, off we went.....the seating was comfortable, train travel allows you the opportunity to walk around so we were able to... More
