You need to go on this trip if you are in Cairns. It takes about 1.5 hours one way. It goes up the mountains and through the rainforest to the historic town of Kuranda. A great way to spend the morning. Come back via the Skyrail and stop off at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Centre if you have time. These three... More

the views of the Kuranda city, and the river is stunning. The bird view of the cable cart also is great. I enjoyed my day trip to this natural landscape/ reserve. The rainforest canopy was very lush, beautiful palms, ephypites, and flowers

The anticipation of enjoying one of the worlds best train journeys proved to be well founded. Boarding at the well preserved, historical Freshwater Station we enjoyed a leisurely one and a half hour trip through incredible rain forest with spectacular panoramic views across the northern cane fields of Cairns. During the trip we were kept fully informed of the historical... More

It's a lovely trip on the train. Very historic & beautiful views of of the waterfall. Best done in the wet season as the waterfall will be at its peak. Train is hot as no aircon but all the windows open which lets breeze in.

Great day's activity in conjunction with the Skyrail & lunch at Kuranda. Commentary on the train trip is very informative & the driver slows at all the important historical spots & when the scenery is at it's most spectacular. There are many short & long tunnels & it's amazing to think they were dug by hand. Very unique & worthwhile... More

We took the scenic railway up the mountain. We did a self drive package & left our car at the skyway parking area & were collected by shuttle bus & taken to Freshwater station to begin our train ride. Our bus driver, Ian was really informative & we learnt so much just on the short bus ride. The carriages are... More

If you go to cairns you must do this trip. It is absolutely wonderful with amazing sights. We went on the skyrail up to kuranda and came back down on the train. you only need half a day for the whole tour and also don't book any of the tours on offer in the hotels. Just turn up. It's cheaper... More

This trip in conjunction with a Skyway return and some hours in Kuranda is a must do if you are staying in Cairns. The views on both trips are outstanding
