Description: Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda...
Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda. This spectacular experience travels over bridges and through tunnels hand-made by North Queensland's pioneers over 100 years ago. Traversing the World Heritage listed rainforest of the Barron Gorge National Park, this is one of the world's great railway journeys.

We rode the Kuranda railway up to Kuranda and then took the skyrail down. The information presented on the train was very interesting, although younger travellers may have found the ride boring. Best part: Learning the very interstings history of the construction of the railway. Worst part: The waterfall was hardly flowing! Apparently during other parts of the year, it... More

If ever we're in Cairns we go up to Kuranda to the markets and shops and my favourite is up on the scenic rail and then back down on the chairlift. Something about the old steam trains seems romantic. The view both on the rail and the chairlift is spectacular. The rail is slow and lets you savor the experience.... More

On a recent trip to Cairns we booked a day trip which involved a trip on the Skyrail which travels about 20 to 60 metres above ground level and provides excellent views of the tropical vegetation. Half way along, you get off and walk along a path through the forest which provides different views and was an interesting experience. Passengers... More

A trip back through the past, learning all about the history of the building of the railway. It was fascinating to realise that the building of the railway commenced in 1886 and was all build by hand. Beautiful scenery as the train meandered down the mountain.

The train and the station gives you a glimpse of a time when train travel was the only way to go. We didn't opt for the upgrade and traveled in "coach." Wish we would have known that seating is predetermined. We should have requested two window seats. We had to take turns at the window. Getting in and out of... More

First - I absolutely recommend going for the Gold class upgrade. Club chairs instead of wooden benches, sweets and savories and beverages, dedicated and knowledgeable steward. Priority boarding and access. Having spent every other day on the water, this was an excellent change of pace. The cable car back down over the treetops was beautiful. At one point you can... More

Have done this trip before and it is always a must do when we are in Cairns. The engineering brilliance and dedication of the workers who carved this line out of the mountain range cannot be adequately put into words. This time we opted to treat ourselves to Gold Class at $50 per person on top of the normal fare.... More

We caught the Sky Rail up to Kuranda and the train back. When I arrived at the Sky Rail terminal I baulked at the cost - $330 for a family. But afterwards I could see were the money goes. It must have cost a bomb to build and operate the cable car service. The staff are courteous and typical Queenslanders... More

The views were amazing and the history of the Railway construction was really interesting and informative. It was very easy to place yourself back in time and feel a little of what it may have been like for the crew that built this amazing rail line.

Nice views great commentary - there is a few stops along the way for some great photos. Combine with the cable sky ride and a wonderful day around Kuranda and its a wonderful day out
