Go to the Cairns botanic gardens on a Sunday when the markets are there. The gardens are a good spot to visit when looking around Cairns. They're a little smaller than we expected but the area is nice and it's a long but scenic walk from the Marina, along the esplanade to the gardens.

I love the rainforest gardens in particular, it was a shame there was a lot of construction happening near the cafe. I'm staying within walking distance so I try to take a morning walk through the gardens. All in all a very pretty, fascinating and extremely well maintained gardens. Well worth seeing and it's free.

The walk up to the gardens is what I enjoyed most as most of the garden areas were closed for improvements. The boardwalk to the lakes is good but my favorite part personally was walking through the bamboo area.

Great ferns, bamboo and trees, but 90% is closed off while work is being carried out. It might be an idea to let the public know this. And don't rejoin the highway expecting to turn right for a drive back to the city. There's only a left turn allowed. I made the mistake of taking the next right, but that... More

A walk around the botanic gardens is a fantastic way to spend time. The gardens contain over 4000 tropical plant species from around the world and about 170 bird species. There are also many butterflies including Australia's largest butterfly and moth. Access around the gardens is very easy via a series of excellent and well marked tracks. Many of the... More

We had a lovely day at the Botanic Gardens. There is so much to see and we all enjoyed discovering the delights of the various sections of gardens, including finding some tropical butterflies and spiny tropical spiders. There was a great cafe there as well.
