One of my favourite botanic gardens in this country. Took a bus from the city to the entrance of the gardens. Pick up a map before you set off and you can wander around all day. The cafe is very good and right next door are some art galleries you can explore.

These gardens are a serene spot in Cairns. The smaller 2.5 Ha Flecker Garden has formal beds of plants surrounded by pleasant lawns. There are native and exotic tropical plants. Displays show how the local indigenous people used the native plants. Unfortunately, the Orchid House was closed. (It is being redeveloped?). We also enjoyed the boardwalks and other tracks on... If you love plants then this is worth a visit in Cairns. A very established Botanical Garden not far from the city. A lovely gentle walk around the gardens will delight anyone with even the slightest bit of interest in plants or birds. There are toilet facilities and also a cafe where you can have a fabulous breakfast or lunch.... More

We were looking for a way to make the most of a spare morning and found this in a guide to free activities in Cairns. As gardens go its not the most impressive, but it has some interesting information and you do feel like you're wandering through a mini Jurassic park which is quite nice in the heat of the... More

I first arrived in Cairns in December 2000. My first visit to the Flecker (The gardens are named after a famous Cairns doctor as is the infamous Box jellyfish Chironex fleckeri) Botanic Gardens was on Christmas day of that year. We ate a mud crab and prawn picnic on the lawn on a perfect, hot, humid, tropical day. Every time... More

These tropical gardens are always being revamped, stunning tropical displays but the new mirrored glass buildings should win an award, the way they reflect the trees and foliage from every angle, with a coffee shop to sit and enjoy the reflections,GREAT!

As a garden lover and florist I was blown away by the botanic gardens in Cairns. Excellent walk ways and the information building cleverly blended into the background. Peaceful and beautiful, a quiet retreat from the Esplanade.
