KSR offers a number of options on this train. The journey is two days out to Forsayth and two back, stopping in Mt Surprise. There are options on tours to the Undara Lava Tubes and the Cobbold Gorge. There is useful commentary on plant and bird life and much to see as the train does not exceed 50 kph until... More

Hi there:) Thanks for your review - nice summary there! just as you mentioned, although it's the same route every week we have put together a host of options and side trips. Glad that you enjoyed the commentary - the great part about this being that it changes throughout the year as the seasons change! Thanks again :) More

We have just completed the 4 day trip from Cairns to Forsayth and back. This trip was on our bucket list and turned out to be one of the best things we have ever done. The train, the accommodation, the meals and the exceptional drivers Wil and Anthony and their commentary and help couldn't be surpassed. We hope to go... More

Took the 4 day tour Cairns-Forsayth-Cairns. Drivers Will and Leigh provided interesting and occasionally humorous commentary sharing insights into Queensland mining town history, climate, vegetation, fauna, rail track history, etc. The journey itself was remarkable for the changing environments, the remoteness of some places on the track, the dry and wet rivers crossed, as well as the comfort of the... We were staying at the Bedrock Caravan and Cabin Park at Mt Surprise for a few days. The staff there have a deal that enables you to join the Savannahlander train for a couple of hours on a journey to Einesleigh, after which you are bussed back to Mt Surprise. Being a train buff from way back, I enjoyed the... More

I have just finished a 4 day trip on this train and it was fantastic. I stayed overnight at Chillagoe, Cobbold Gorge Forsayth and Mount Surprise . To me the highlights of the trip were the Gorge and the train itself. The guys were great and very patient. This trip should be a must for everyone, Well done

What a memorable experience this was. We were kept entertained by Will & Leigh for the whole journey. Nothing was too much trouble for them. You can sit in front next to the driver, ask questions along the way. They stop for photos when you want as well as stopping to point out important sights along the way. We stopped... More

4 days on a train?, no, much much more than that. Unbelievable events at every turn. We travelled late in the season and were the only fare paying passengers. Leigh and Wil were in charge as the old diesel unit travels along the single track to Forsayth. Why was the line ever built? - you may wonder, but I will... More

I travelled on the Savannahlander as part of a 9 day Wilderness Challenge Safari. I love old trains and this was a lovely ride. The engineers were wonderful (one of them a true movie star). Most memorable is the Bullock Creek café... this is one of the greatest places for high tea that you will find in the world.

Thanks so much for the glowing review :) We are all wondering who the movie star is now! (multiple staff members have moved forward to claim that title!) If you enjoyed the cafe, don't forget to send us a picture of your cafe cups! More

Given the title I've given this review, I'm not going to set out to describe it. It was, quite simply, the trip of (quite a long) lifetime. The accommodation is simple. The track is a bit bumpy. But I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Every aspect was brilliant. That's all. Thanks a million.

Awww - thanks! We are glad that you enjoyed it. Yes, we work hard to keep some of the areas authentic and even a bit rustic (we don't actually put any bumps in the track however - they are natural!) Thanks again for coming :) More
