We stopped to snorkel here - what a spectacular spot! I saw my first wild turlle. So exciting. Leave the birds alone.

We went with Seastar Cruises on 29th Dec, and they visit 2 reefs (Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Outer Reef). This was a great trip, lots of beautiful fish and Coral, we snorkelled and enjoyed every moment! Also recommend Hastings Outer Reef (that was even better!)

This place is gorgeous and there are so many birds. During my visit the birds all have been nesting. You saw so many sitting on their eggs. Also the snorkeling and diving are very nice seeing a lot of coral and fish and animals.

At 1 hour from Cairns this Cay is a bird sanctuary (seen more than 10 different sea birds!), and a snorkeling reef area with lots of colorful fishes. Ask for Ocean Spirit boat ride!

Had a great time. The boat was comfortable and the food on board was plentiful and yum. The staff were great, we learnt a lot about the animals and coral and really enjoyed the ample time we had to snorkel. The water was clear and the semi submersible tour was also really interesting. Enjoyed doing a bit of sun baking... More

Don't do the pontoons - it feels a bit artificial and there are too many people. Get on a boat/snorkel tour and check out Michaelmas Cay. Much more to see and we spotted the resident green sea turtle!

We went with Seastar, see my other review, you definitely want to go with Seastar. The reef here is amazing, and what you want to see at a reef, it is very alive and colorful, has a ton of fish, and turtles. It is quite shallow area so is a great first snorkel or dive to get your experience up.

I dived here with Passions of Paradise in early June 2014. The water temperature was a balmy 26-27 C; visibility was approx. 8-10 m. This was the second dive of the day, so max depth was only about 10 m. We saw some green sea turtles, lots of different kinds of fish, such as giant trevally, batfish, etc. And I... More

Our family traveled out to Michaelmas Cay with Ocean Spirit excursions in late December 2014 as part of a holiday down under. Things that were amazing: - warm clear water teeming with fish- saw a moray eel too - small island (a large sandbar actually) literarily covered with a variety of shore birds swooping all about you- many had chicks... Travelled to Michaelmas Cay with Seastar - one of the few (and original) tour companies with a licence to visit the cay. Apart from getting up close and personal with all the birds on the cay, was amazed to experience small sharks patrolling the edge of the water (presumably waiting for baby birds to stumble into the water). They swum... More
