We went to Michaelmas Cay with Seastar cruises. It was about a week after the cyclone had passed and a few people warned us of limited vision due to the sand being stirred up. However it was beautiful when we were there, visibility was ok, snorkelling off the beach was a great experience (previously had only snorkelled right off a... More

Brilliant day out. Visit Michaelmas Cay a small sandy island with a large population of birds. Snorkelling over the reef is absolutely fantastic. Not to be missed.

Wonderful place to go snorkelling, especially if your swimming fitness levels aren't so good as you can rest on the beach if you get tired. If you go to Cairns then a trip to the reef is a must.

Went to the Cay on an Ocean Spirit Cruise. The trip over was rough enough to have me very sea sick despite the Ginger tablets provided (and dutifully swallowed) when we boarded. Fortunately barf bags were in plentiful supply. That's the bad news. The rest was wonderful (except that I was too sick to eat what looked like a fabulous... More

Very small island in which you are allowed to move on 50x50 m area. You'll see thousands of different seabirds (mainly terns) at very short (even under one meter) distance. About 10-12 differenct species easily identifiable and easy to make picture, 10-15 minutes enough for complete observation and picturing. Snorkeling is also easy. Different kinds of coral near to beach.... More

We went in a tour to Michaelmas Cay and had the opportunity to snorkeling close to the island, really good spots and the sensation when you arrive to the island and see that quantity of birds is unique and pleasant.

of all our snorkelling trips this was the best . We went with Passions of Paradise . Very professional and safety conscious .The corals were beautiful and so colourful and the variety and size of the shoals of fish was incredible . The giant clams and turtles also deserve a mention . An unforgettable experience !

Nice stop to go snorkeling, lots of birds to watch. The water is a bit murky but that might have been because of the weather.

The area would have to be one of the easiest snorkelling places on the reef, on going there with Seastar cruises, we were lucky to have on board a marine biologist, who explained the type of reef we would be exploring. She also answered the myriad of questions fielded to her whilst we were snorkeling, she even started giving us... More

I've been to Cairns a few times and this is by far my favourite place to go snorkelling / scuba diving. The birds are however a bit loud and the restricted area that people are allowed to access are the reason why it scored 4/5. Oh and mind your head; you're likely to get pooped on haha Definitely worth a... More
