We went with Ocean Spirit Cruises; the catamaran ferry was big and steady with air-con and external areas for sun lovers. It took about 2 hours to get from Cairns to Michaelmas Cay where we berthed. The briefing on what to do/what not to do were conducted simultaneously in different parts of the ferry in different languages to ensure that... More

Michaelmas Cay is a lovely part of the Great Barrier Reef to visit. A large part of the island is a bird sanctuary and a part is left for visitors to use as a base for scuba diving or snorkelling. The reef around the Cay is varied for beginners and offers a wide variety of coral and fish. We sighted... More

I visited Micaelmas Cay with Ocean Spirit Cruises. The Cay is very small and features an abundance of sea birds who were amazing to watch. There is at times over 20,000 birds on the Cay and I was lucky enough to see many with eggs and/or young. It is great to see the preservation of this wildlife. As far as... More

The snorkeling was great here. Varied and colorful corral, Plentiful fish. We even saw 3 sea turtles and giant colorful clams. Though the island was small and covered in birds, was thankful for land as I get seasick often.

Imagine being swamped by thousands of fish, sea turtles swimming by, sting rays. This is truly one of the greatest places I have ever visited.

We went with Seastar cruises so that we could do Michaelmas cay as well as hastings reef. We went onto the cay and started a snorkelling tour with one of the guides on seastar cruises, I don't know how to swim but thankfully the guide held a swim ring and a couple of us with life jackets were able to... Small cay with no vegetation and thousands of birds. The snorkeling was good and the trip operators, silver spirit did a professional job. The problem was that the boat was packed and because visitors have limited access to where they can go because it's a bird sanctuary, the snorkel areas were very crowded. It would have been better with fewer... More

This is a great place to snorkel from giving easy access in and out of the water. The corral and marine life is amazing and all the sea birds on the island are cool to see

This is a spit of sand, not much of a cay. Not much of a beach area, just enough to leave your stuff while you snorkel the small reef area . You will see large numbers of Brown Noddy, Sooty Terns, Crested Terns, and Lesser Crested Terns in the roped off nest area. Great for photography as the birds have... More
