The trip out the reef was great with friendly staff and plenty of morning tea available. The reef itself was showing signs of over use with the fish few and far between. The lunch was excellent and the trip back was enjoyable. The Ocean Spirit is a sailing catamaran but with no wind the sails were not used.

We went on a snorkeling/diving excursion that first stopped off at Michaelmas Cay. I was disappointed. It was just not great -- I had really high expectations. Fortunately, we then went on to Hastings Reef which was beautiful.

Fantastic experience. Beautiful boat and excellent service. The island was out of this world. Swimming next to fish, etc was just amazing in very clean waters. Something we will never forget.

It's a double reserve the cay is for nesting sea birds the reef is a reserve for coral, fish, and all the rest of the ocean critters. A great stop on a two stop tour

We did not have a lot of experience doing this. There are a lot of choices and our first choice was sold out. This was our most expensive one day attraction but it is the Great Barrier Reef. This was very good. We had an excellent time. The staff were very helpful given our limited abilities. The food was very... More

I visited Michaelmas Cay as part of a full day SeaStar snorkelling/diving tour from Cairns. It was very interesting to see all the birds on the island and then go snorkelling. Recommended, but if you can make sure you also snorkel at Hastings Reef which was much more spectacular.

It's popular but not too busy as boats are staggered. Great for beginner snorkellers and divers. It has no shelter, so sunscreen is a good idea.

Not much to it...a little area of sandy beach and the rest inhabited by birds. But I guess that is what a "cay" is! HA.
