If you around Cairns you have to come to Tablelands. It has so much more to offer than coastal,. area. Even water sports, fishing and activities are better (no crocodiles so you can actually swim). You will find waterfalls, lakes in craters, rain forest walks, little communities that look after their historic towns full of surprising places. You will find... More

We stayed in Port Douglas and had a late flight out from Cairns, so we decided to go for a little drive up to the tablelands. We just wanted to see the crater lake, Lake Barrine. The drive was lovely and took us up lots of twists and turns and through lots of different scenery. It took us about 75-90... More

We're Cairns locals and we love to "escape" to the Atherton Tablelands as often as possible. We venture up there regularly for the brilliant country markets - our favourites are the Yungaburra and the Mareeba markets. The produce is actually locally grown, beautifully fresh and very reasonably priced and the vendors are always ready for a chat! For even more... More

Really interesting to see the Atherton Chinatown and the how the Chinese community lived. The Hou Wang temple is one of the only lasting tin temples in Australia. Gabe was a knowledgeable and great guide. Really interesting history.

We were based in Port Douglas for four days. We did Mossman Gorge, the Daintree and up to the Cape and decided on our last day to go inland (not knowing what to expect). Well let me tell you, so glad we did. We drove up the range to Mount Molloy, then on to Mareeba which was interesting. We stumbled... More

A real volcano crater at the end of a beautiful walk through the rainforest combined with a detour to the scenic Dinner Falls is an experience you will not want to miss and it is free. We took beautiful photos and marvelled at the fact that this area could be so accessible and yet so untouched. You have to visit.

We rented a car for the day. It equated to about half the price of a day tour (for 2 people) and gave us complete flexibility. There is so much to do around the area. The mountain roads provide spectacular views. Our favourite attractions were Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine. These are pristine crater lakes, filled with fresh water. They... More

A nice day/half day trip recommended from Cairns to see different landscapes, drive through different towns, stopping along the way at various attractions. Recommended route from Cairns is on Gillies Highway up mountain to Yungaburra, Malanda, Atherton, Mareeba then back via Kennedy Highway. Beware of car motion sickness on the winding roads of Gillies highway but the drive is worth... More

Jacques Coffee Plantation and Coffee works - do them in that order. Couple of others very ordinary. Wine? forget it they are very amateurish and not worth the visit. Cheese factory (can't remember it's name) is really low level and cheeses are poorer than supermarket fayre.
