The tablelands are beautiful and a must to visit if you're in or around Cairns. It is a beautiful car journey winding up the mountain and the sky rail is equally spectacular. On the tablelands i recommend visiting some of the Coffee plantations.

Starting at the climb to Kuranda by car up to Mareeba, stopping for coffee at The Skyburuy plantation and on to the museum and information centre is a good way to start your Sunday morning. From there drive south to Atherton visit the Sunday markets then on to Herberton and Ravenshoe and see the majestic scenery of the Hinterland, finishing... More

I will state first that I am keen on wildlife and am an avid photographer so my review will have some bias. I have been to the Atherton Tablelands 4 times in the last 14 years because of the variety and accessibility of wildlife. I have stayed at The Canopies, at Chambers Lodge, at Kingfisher Park and have camped in... More

Cairns was just getting into its day when, with Diann as our driver/guide for Down Under Tours, we headed through its southern suburbs and into sugar cane country. We were bound for the Atherton Tableland, with a long stop at Paronella Park on the way home. At Gordonvale, we turned on to the Gillies Highway, with 263 bends and 800... More

This was our third day in the Cairns area and we loved driving through this area. It is well sign posted and an easy drive around. Getting up and down is another story, amazing winding road but with some stunning views. We did four waterfalls in the one afternoon which were all beautiful. The scenery and farming areas are amazing... More

We did a day trip to the tablelands and loved it - it was great fun sliding down the natural rock slide at Josephine Falls, Milla Milla falls are beautiful and the water at Lake Eachem is beautiful to swim in. Highly recommended for a day trip!

If you around Cairns you have to come to Tablelands. It has so much more to offer than coastal,. area. Even water sports, fishing and activities are better (no crocodiles so you can actually swim). You will find waterfalls, lakes in craters, rain forest walks, little communities that look after their historic towns full of surprising places. You will find... More

We stayed in Port Douglas and had a late flight out from Cairns, so we decided to go for a little drive up to the tablelands. We just wanted to see the crater lake, Lake Barrine. The drive was lovely and took us up lots of twists and turns and through lots of different scenery. It took us about 75-90... More

We're Cairns locals and we love to "escape" to the Atherton Tablelands as often as possible. We venture up there regularly for the brilliant country markets - our favourites are the Yungaburra and the Mareeba markets. The produce is actually locally grown, beautifully fresh and very reasonably priced and the vendors are always ready for a chat! For even more... More
