Love the Tablelands!

Beautiful grounds and natural attraction. Unspoiled. Take a picnic lunch. No shops around. The tablelands are filled with lakes, waterfalls and gorgeous rolling green pastures.

We spent two days in the Atherton tablelands, utilising Cairns as our base and really enjoyed the day we spent driving south towards Paronella Park with stops along the well marked waterfall circuit. The walks to view points were generally quite short but well worth it.

The sheer drop of the crater is well worth a look! I womder how the fishes get in there in the first place? The waterfall is also nice and would be a good dip in the heat of summer! Not suitable for wheelchair access.

Drove from Cairns via Kennedy Hwy, avoiding the twists and turns of Gillies Hwy. Miles and miles of coffee and banana plantations. There a few attractions one can visit when driving through the Tablelands. We stopped by Tolga enroute to Curtain Fig Tree. Visited the Peanut place, Woodwork Gallery and drop by Tolga Bakery at 1/56 Main St. Tolga. We bought... More

Left our holiday accommodation in Palm Cove and headed to the Tablelands via Kuranda, didn't stop there but went on to the Coffee Works in Mareeba. Then stopped for lunch at an old Queensland Hotel in Atherton. Next was the Mt Uncle Distillery and off to bird watching at Lake Tinaroo. Decided to take the road past the dam wall... More

Lovely scenic area but I was suprised how busy the road was at first on the way out of Cairns. It's a nice drive with lots of scenic attractions to stop at. We went to Barron falls (lovely, scenic and short walks), Kuranda (touristy but nice), then made our way to Atherton (nothing to see in the town), then Lake Eacham... More

Plenty of driving in a minibus, decent food included. Stop offs were OK but no better than that. An interesting day but I wouldn't do it again.

Best nature photography workshop I ever attended. I visited amazing places with the group and learned heaps with the fantastic photographer Jurgen Freund. Highly recommend to everybody who likes nature photography!

We spent a couple of days out on the Atherton Tablelands exploring. This was my second visit to the area and I believe it will take quite a few more visits before I come close to seeing most of the area . There is so much to explore. The previous trip I managed to get to wineries, tea plantations and... More

There is plenty to see and we had insufficient time to see it all. The lakes were great. Lake Tinaroo for water sports and camping, Lake Eacham for a swim and a BBQ and Lake Barrine and this place is spoilt for choice in the swimming stakes. If you have not been here then do your research and be selective... More
