Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Cairns foreshore used to be a boring place with not much to recommend to visitors. The lagoon and grassed areas are free and provide a much needed place to have some fun on hot humid days in Cairns. It's safe and with in easy access to accommodation. Parking can be a tad difficult though as it is across the road... More

WOW, this is a gorgeous lagoon located right in the middle of it all!! We were lucky enough to visit on a perfect winters day... Super sunny and 27 degrees!! The Saturday market was on and my totally legendary boyfriend bought me my first piece oh handmade glass jewellery! There was a band playing music too, yes it was busy,... More

Amazing place! The laguna is a lovely spot to swim and relax. It is very safe (you can leave your things on the grass while going for a dip in the cool water).

Brilliant, was amazing place, its' free to swim in the huge pool even at night when the stars are out. It has security so no dramas there and is a stones throw away from nice restaurants.

the Cairns lagoon is free, so we cant really complain. but there is nothing to complain about really. its a great place to hang out, with a shallow simulated sand beach for the kids, and deeper sections for everyone else. the sculptures are awesome and the BBQ areas play reggae music which I love. my only complain is that you... We discovered this on the first day and although my son did not have his togs we took him back the next day. Be aware this area does get very crowded. On the day we visited it was not very busy and it was easy to find a spot to sit. A great place to spend the day and take... More

The lagoon in Cairns is so great - As there is no real beach at the esplanade in Cairns, the Lagoon is the perfect make up for the lack of a beach. The pool is supplied with filtered seawater and there are lifeguards keeping an eye on the bathing guests. A treasure for us tourists that makes it easy to... More

This is a beautiful lagoon at the end of the boardwalk. The fish sculptures are both lovely and functional.
