Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Brilliantly set out on the esplanade, between the beach and the night markets/restaurant strip. Grassed areas and shady trees among the palm trees, with BBQ facilities. There are several pools to choose from. I spent an idyllic Christmas day there, swimming with my grandson.

Choice spot to chill and do nothing. Nice clean water, brilliant view, right in town. Don't even need a towel you can sit on the grass. Recommended.

My daughter swam every day and night. Very warm and clean with a life guard on duty. Fantastic area with a magic view looking out onto the lagoon. Recommend

As we had a late afternoon flight home, we had several hours to kill in Cairns. The lagoon was a fabulous way to entertain the family and relax before our flight home. A massive pool area with plenty of room to find a spot to chill - plenty of food options close by, including McDonalds. The change rooms with shower... More

This is a great family attraction for both swimming & sunbathing. The local residents pack it along with vacationers. You can swim without worrying about salt water crocodiles at the beaches in Cairns. It is a salt water pool and not a freshwater pool.

Had a great time hanging out at the lagoon. We had to checkout of our hotel at 10am but weren't ready to stop swimming for the day. We wandered down to the lagoon with snacks and drinks and were met with a bustling swimming hole. There was a DJ until 6pm and great vibes all around. Bring your own towel,... More

So nice to have the fresh water swimming pool rights next to the ocean, and give it some sand and green as well. Trees provide good canopy. There are free shower facilities. BBQ stoves are free too for people to cook for their picnic. Definitely a must go.

This is such a wonderful place to spend your mornings, afternoons or evenings. The best time (I feel) would be the golden hour in the evening when the sun is setting and a glorious golden ray sets in (great for photos!!). It would have been such a romantic place for a date and there is a great sorbet shop right... More
