Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Immediately surrounding the underwhelming pool on a nice day, you will find the grass strewn with half-naked tourists. The surrounding ocean can pose sundry threats depending on the season, including poisonous jellyfish and salt water crocodiles. The danger of the sea water is the only thing that draws people to this pool. I would recommend instead a trip to the... More

The pool itself is amazing but be very careful with little ones as the backpackers have little regard for clothes and social etiquette.

Beautiful outdoor pool - clean, in a great location, supervised and wonderful for all ages.Would highly recommend to spend a few hours - especially during the week when it is less busy.

The idea of a public outdoor pool right beside the sea was perfected, especially since the beach on the esplanade was not that clean. The design, and the whole vibe around the pool was great, loved it !

Very attractive man-made lagoon managed by the city. Plenty of space to relax in the water or in the shaded grassy area. Restaurants and shops are very close too. Sandy beach areas are nice. Bring a book and beach gear and relax.

Amazing solution for swimmers to avoid the beaches at the times not suitable for swimming - with verying depths to suit all ages as well as white snad beach and grassy area for sunbathers; free showers and secure lockers and even free Aqua zumba lessons at certain times - brilliant idea for a great city

Cairns lagoon is absolutely gorgeous. On the day that we were there it was busy with live music and all free! What is there not to like!

What a wonderful idea for the inner city where getting cool is a major major deal. Families play together and street performers all plentiful.
