In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

We booked the cruise based on tripadvisor ratings and their own professional website and we were 100% satisfied. Everyone on board was very friendly and helpful and had a good sense of humour at all times. They took care of all people no matter what. Even the kids were towed in the water by the guide to give them their... More

The crew were friendly and professional, the equipment was good quality and well maintained and the experience was well guided and fun! The lunch on board is a classic Australian BBQ style lunch sans sausages which was very refreshing after a cool snorkel you follow it up by ankther snorkel on the outer reef which was much warmer! Thanks seastar!

From the moment we were met at the Marina the fun began. You will notice a young crew but their knowledge is priceless and show a very professional attitude to what they do. At Michaelmas Cay we watched as the guides towed young children around snorkelling over the reef with great care, this proved that the Sea Star Cruise is... More

If you want to see the Great Barrier Reef you have no choice but to take a long boat ride on what can be quite choppy waters. If you do this, you might as well do it with a company that makes the trip as comfortable as possible and gives you ample time to enjoy the marine life. Seastar offers... More

The experience was absolutely amazing, since the first moment the staff was kind and helpful and always trying that our experience could be the best. The staff knows exactly their job and always tries to motivate people about the trip. Morning and Afternoon coffee, lunch and pictures were an ideal complement to the experience of knowing the reef. One thing... More

Just got back from a fabulous day out on the Reef. From the moment we got on board (with a hot coffee and fresh muffin) the day was excellent. All of the staff were professional in their knowledge and briefings but also alot of fun and enthusiasm. It was overcast abd raining when we left but lovely and sunny out... More

The previous reviewer here must have been smoking coral. It was a bit rough on Saturday when myself and my two kids (11 and 14) went out on the boat but we had an excellent time, and this is/was by no means my first snorkelling trip. My son started blowing chunks into the bag at one point, and I followed... More

We visited the reef with Seastar in July 2014 and had a fantastic time. The crew is young, enthusiastic and took excellent care of us. The boat and all equipment was first class and they had us out to the reef in no time. Our safety was paramount with special care for the first timers. Thanks to all of the... More

I had a great day out on the Great Barrier Reef with Seastar. It was my first trip to Cairns and I didn't really know which parts of the reef were the best to visit, but the crew on Seastar took us to two beautiful spots in the outer reef (Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Reef), both of which were beautiful... We were recommended to go to the Barrier Reef on the Seastar by Red Mill House in Daintree where we were staying because of our love of photographing birds. This cruise did not disappoint because we went to Michaelmas Cay and saw the breeding colonies of Brown Booby's, Crested Terns, Common Noddy's and Frigate birds. While on the island one... More
