Owner description: Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines the outer Great Barrier Reef with a coral cay island. In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot.

Great service, nice food, really glad I chose this company! Had never snorkelled before but loved exploring the reef. I found I needed to borrow one of their wetsuits for my second snorkel but I get cold easily. Just a note, their prescription snorkels are free but only go up to +4 i think, so if you require a stronger... More

After reading multiple reviews there was no doubt that Seastar Cruises were what we were looking for. The crew was young, hard working, friendly, organized and knowledgable. They kept on schedule and helped everyone from beginning to end. When we saw the other huge boats pulling in with over 100 people, we were so glad we chose Seastar. Water was... More

The 'Seastar' cat is the fast, easy and enjoyable way to experience the Great Barrier Reef's wildlife - it was recommended to me by the birdwatchers on the Cairns Esplanade. The big bonus of the 'Seastar' is the small number of fellow guests on board, consequently a spacious and intimate experience instead of a bun fight to move around. The... More

It was the highlight of our Cairn trip. Snorkeling at the MICHAELMAS CAY was fun but snorkeling was just amazing at the Hasting Reef. Staff were very friendly and patient. The food provided was good, we especially like the variety of cakes they provided during the afternoon tea! It was a small group of 30 people onboard, plenty of space... More

Awesome tour and awesome crew! Easily the best snorkeling tour I have done, in part of course due to the awesome locations Seastar go to, but also due to the crew on board that made it so good! Treated well from the moment we boarded until we left. Nice buffet lunch and good quality snorkel gear. Having done many snorkel... More

We went in end Nov. We picked Seastar as we didn't want to be in a group of 200 people. The boat had about 35 passangers. Since it was jellyfish season, they made us wear stinger suits. We went to two reefs... The first one was Michaelmas Cay. We did our introductory dive here... The instructor Alexa was nice and... More

I think the choice of company you use for your Great Barrier Reef trip boils down to whether you are seduced by some of the extra excursion such as underwater platform walks, or that you want a good dive and snorkelling experience with great people who know your name. Talking to others in my hotel who went with the larger... More

The first thing to note is that the passengers on SeaStar are a bit older and most were travelling with family. We felt that we were probably the youngest people on the boat. This was different to what we saw on other boats which were more catered towards backpackers. That being said, everyone we met was lovely! One of the... More

These guys were great. Well equipped, treated us as individuals - not cattle and showed us some spectacular GBR. I talked to others who didn't see anywhere near what we saw. Don't waste your money on cheaper tours. If you are going to snorkel or dive, pick these guys. Tips: Do bring an underwater camera; don't bother with your own... More
