In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

My husband and I went to Cairns for our honeymoon and this was definitely the best activity that we did. The staff were great, we visited two different types of reefs (Michaelmas cay was a lot more shallow and sandy so good for a gentle entrance into the water for beginners, and Hastings at the outer reef you could enter... This is the reef cruise company to use to see the birds on Michaelmas Cay. These guys arrive before the other boats so you are most likely to have a bit of peace and quiet with the birds before the crowd descends on the beach. If your lucky you might be able to see the very uncommon Red-footed Booby sitting... More

We went on a snorkeling trip with our two young daughters on Seastar. Even though the seas were rough on the day we went the staff did a great job of making it a very memorable and enjoyable experience. They cap the number of guests at around 30 so it doesn't feel too crowded. A bunch of boats go to... More

My mom and I picked Seastar based on the TripAdvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. All of the crew on the boat were friendly and helpful. It was a little overcast when we left Cairns but the weather cleared out when we got out to the reef. The first stop everyone got to test out the snorkeling equipment and... More

Must do trip to the Great Barrier Reef on the good ship Seastar. Brilliant day out, everything included, the Seastar crew look after you really well, Visit Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Outer Reef. Snorkelling over the reef is absolutely fantastic. Not to be missed.

Without a doubt this was the highlight of our two week trip across Australia and New Zealand. One part of the story is they have an amazing team - The captain, their lead diver (An Austrian now settled in Cairns, she was just lovely), and the rest, just made us feel at home. It was a rough day at the... More

Great day with SeaStar crew. They did everything possible to make us comfortable and safe. Nasty day when we left Cairns so we had rough seas for awhile but the crew was great. WE did scuba at Michaelmas Cay and then snorkeled Hasting Reef. If you do not want to dive don't worry the snorkeling is great you will see... More

We went on this cruise on the 4th April, 2014 for our first time to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. We had our 6 year old daughter with us who had a ball. The amount of care that was taken with everyone on the day trip was outstanding. The lunch was great and definitely plenty to feed all of... More

My husband and I enjoyed a full day of snorkelling, sun, and a delicious meal. We were impressed with the crews attention to our safety, enjoyment, and seeing the cast of Finding Nemo. The lunch was a mix of salads, potatoes, and chicken. Coffee, cake, and fruit were available as well as lots of water. We felt this was well... More
