In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

I decided to use this company after reading such glowing reviews on TA and I'm so glad I did! I contacted them before booking to ensure that my husband would be fine to do the snorkelling, as he can't actually swim, and they confirmed this would be fine. They also offer a glass bottom boat tour if you don't want... More

My family travelled on Seastar to Michaelmas Island and the outer reef. We had one of the best days of our holidays, although the weather could have been better the friendly happy staff made up for it. The first stop was excellent for me and my 2 children, so safe to swim we went on a snorkel tour while my... More

I prepaid for my day to the reef and when we got out there I did the intro to diving. I went in the water with the gear and put my head in the water, and decided, I will go last out of the 4 of us. Then when my turn came I attempted to go down the rope, and... More

The crew was extremely welcoming right from the get-go. The small size of the boat allows substantial crew-passenger interaction when doing scuba training, learning about the reef, or just chatting. Both dive sites (Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Reef) were great and the crew was very knowledgable on the various species of fish and coral. Definitely recommend it for anyone interested... More

This was a great snorkelling trip. Staff had heaps of enthusiasm and knowledge, and were not afraid to share either. They made sure we saw what we wanted to see. There was plenty of space on the boat and not too many people which was awesome. We saw so much sea life and coral and had more than enough time... More

As a cert.diver and been on a few other boats up on the reef but they all have so many people on these boats you start to fell like cattle,as this boat is small it can only take about 30people and the day I went out there were only 4 of us diving and the young girl Aneata was so... More

We had a great time sharing dive experiences as certified and introductory divers. The staff was relaxed and competent making each diver feel at ease in the water. They also and took the effort to chat up the guests and ensure everyone had a great day. The dives were perfectly timed and an abundance of sea life was viewed. The... More

I am an experienced diver and snorkeler - I grew up on a beach in Florida - but I was looking for an easy and fun snorkel trip to the Great Barrier Reef. I was worried about tours crowed with pure tourists, long stays at boring Green Islands, and boats that only went to dive spots too deep to snorkel... More
