In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

The tour was organised very professionally. The staff were fantastic and helpful. I took my mother out, who found it too difficult to swim due to her shoulder problems. The staff helped her snorkelling and towed her to all the great spots in the water. Would highly recommend this tour.

Very good day trip! I booked it on the internet and everything worked very well! Small group tour. Visit to different locations in the reef, away from the places where the big tour groups usually go. Amazing crew and a tasty lunch! I strongly recommend it!

We had an amazing day out on the reef with Seastar. The smaller vessel which took 35 passengers was the perfect size to get out and explore without feeling like you are surrounded by masses of people. It was quite an intimate experience. The staff were all lovely and very helpful and positive. Couldn't fault it!

So loved the trip, snorkelling on the reef was amazing, small group and great staff and food on board. Obviously a great little set up. However, I pre booked and the day I went was very bad weather, I took seasickness pills ( just take them regardless) but it was so rough it didn't help. Worst of all we couldn't... More

Really fun instructors, great day all together. The reef is brilliant, but personally haven't tried other companies.

Was not looking forward to the early start as we were in Trinity Beach and had a 30 minute drive to Cairns but boy was it worth it when we got to the first location. We were the only people there until we left and saw an amazing amount of wildlife. The crew really make the day and are the... More

This reef tour was amazing! We went to Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Reef on our snorkel tour. The crew was so helpful and informative, plus we got about 2.5 hours to explore each place. The lunch they served was awesome and the glass bottom boat tour was a great added bonus! We saw several sea turtles and tons of beautiful... More

So many companies offering snorkeling you can't beat this one! Max 35, think it was 7-8 staff high ratio. Very safety conscious. Welcomed on board with hot drinks and a muffin. Seasickness was a problem for some they became ill very quickly but were helped by the crew at all times. The crew are young professional and fun. You get... More

Based on a friend's recommendation we booked seastar cruises and it was well worth it ! With few people (30 or so), all inclusive fare(equipment and meals) and attentive crew cruising along Great Barrier Reef is smooth ! Best part is that they take you to two locations where you can snorkel, scuba or ride a glass bottom boat. Corals... More
