In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

I nearly didn't end up booking this boat but decided I had to see Michaelmas Cay. Well, it turned out to be a great day - Michaelmas Cay was beautiful (though with a much smaller area fenced off for humans than I had imagined) and the snorkelling there was good. We saw a turtle and nemo too as well as... More

What a day! This trip was awesome. The young friendly staff were enthusiastic and helpful, and quite knowledgeable on reef information. The day was perfect and passed way too quickly, I highly recommend this cruise company. the lunch served was delicious, and hot coffee welcome after our time in the water. The only request I would make would have been... More

The trip is everything is says in the brochure and the booking office and the staff are helpful, efficient, experienced, knowledgeable and pleasant and friendly. It is a great boat which really does motor along and the smaller size means that when you get to the reef you really can do your own thing. The catered very well for the GF wife and her meal was above average quality and not a trace of gluten to be seen. Staff were friendly very helpful and good... More

We visited Cairns and the GBR a month ago. SeaStar was the main reason for this trip to be an unforgettable one. First, they take only very small groups. This makes the experience much better. Not only because it is not so crowded but also because you get to all the spots before all the big boats and you can... More

Seastar Cruises was a good choice to see the reef. We had a group of 15. On a boat with just 35 people it was perfect. The day was pretty windy, but still had a great time. First stop was on a bird island...it smells like birds, so beware. Was a good spot to try out snorkeling though. Not just... More

We had a great experience with Seastar Cruises. The team were fantastic and you can tell they love their job, who wouldn't! As frequent snorkelers we were a little hesitant to take the guided tours but it was great - the tour is short and the guide is so knowledgable and able to point out things we would definitely have...
