In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

we visited the reef on a perfect day - the sun was shining and there wasn't too much wind. we also got to see some awesome things while snorkeling on the reef. the trip was great, but i'm not sure how much of that was due to seastar. the staff members were very pleasant, but seemed a bit amateur at... We stopped at 2 different locations and did diving. Also had a glass bottom boat tour for the group. The staff was awesome and one of the best things is that they took pictures of you, the group and in the water so you don't even need to bring a water camera. All the pictures are posted on their Facebook... More

We travelled with two kids aged 9 & 11 and were a little unsure what to expect. We arrived at the boat just before 7.30 am as advised, and it was the start of a perfect day for us. The Seastar Team are courteous, caring, amusing, good people, who were very helpful throughout the day. Signed in, had our free... More

The cruise consists of 2 locations with different characteristics. Both locations had an abundance of corals and marine life. In both locations we were the only boat when we arrived so we had the place all to ourselves. The crew was very knowledgeable and the talks during the travel were very informative. The atmosphere on the boat was fun as... More

We went out on the August 8th trip. From the beginning to the end, the staff were courteous, helpful, and seemed bent on delivering a personalized experienced. Staff will come to take away your cups and plates from tea and lunch (we are both very good) and bring you your snorkel gear. I was incredibly impressed by the way those... More

With 3 kids (5, 9 & 11) who've never snorkelled before, taking them on the Great Barrier Reef was always going to be a risk. We thought that having both the cay & outer reef sites gave us more flexibility with the children. All 3 had a go at Michaelmas Cay but only the 11 year old truly relaxed and... More

We booked with seastar after the great reviews and were not disappointed. The young crew was very professional and helpful and made the day a lot of fun. Nothing was too much trouble from the lunch, the informative info, the extra time spent with the kids on board and the care to those who felt a little sea sick! Michealmans... More

Took a while and some research before we chose the tour operator to go with. We finally decided on Seastar Cruises even though they were the most expensive and the experience was worth every penny. We were picked up near our holiday accommodation, which was important as we didn't have our own transport. The crew were excellent as were the... More

Best snorkeling experience I've ever had, after several bad experiences in Mexico, Sea Star was excellent. First there are only 35 people so you get personal attention if needed, second they welcome you and make you feel at home and get you fitted with all the equipment you need right away. Third they don't drop you of in water over... More
