Owner description: 'Wait-a-While Rainforest Tours' specialises in small group day/night rainforest wildlife tours. It is magical to be involved in seeing a wild animal unrestricted in its natural environment in the rainforest. We often see platypus, birds, possums, tree kangaroos, insects, frogs, owls, reptiles, various invertebrates and other animals on our tours. As a lot of Australian rainforest animals are nocturnal, a night element and spotlighting is included with a knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide.

From the start Paul was friendly and informative. Swift pick up and wildlife from the get go. We saw lots of animals many much closer than we expected. We rarely waited more than a few minutes to see platypus, tree kangaroos, lizards, pademelons and possums. Paul was informative, able to answer any question. He was excellent with my deaf partner... We booked this tour for our group of four adults. Paul is an excellent and knowledgeable guide dedicated to maximizing viewing opportunities. From the moment we left our hotel he began to show us the wildlife right across the street and did not miss an opportunity to find every species he could. Tour is well organized but a few suggestions:... More

Our experience with the Wait-a-While Rainforest Tour was a memorable exploration of the local wildlife in and around Cairns. We signed up for the tour based on a recommendation from the Frommer's Guidebook. Paul conveniently picked us up from our hotel in central Cairns, where we rode alongside two other families. The small size of the group was ideal -... More

What a great tour, Paul as well informed and new the best places to go to see the wildlife that had eluded us to date, well worth the money and we would recommend this tour to anyone interested in fining out more about the wildlife of Australia. The highlight for us was spending about an hour watching a platypus in... More

My wife and I took the Wait-a-While Rainforest Tour in November 2014. The tour is focused on wildlife spotting - there is no other tour in Cairns like it. Before we even left the city limits of Cairns, our guide, Paul, took us to see spectacle flying foxes (bats), agile wallabies, and green ants (which you can lick - they... More

This tour was amazing! Paul is a great guide filled to the top with knowledge that he's more than willing to share. He spotted heaps of animals and plants that I would've walked straight passed if I were to do it on my own. I will never forget the nightwalk where we spotted 6(!) green ringtail possums and many other... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip in all ways. It was well organised, with convenient pick up from the hotel. [The group size was small - just 6 adults on the tour, so you didn't have to call on too many hotels to collect others though!]. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and was an excellent and patient host... More

This was absolutely the best tour we have EVER been on!!! We got lucky and were the only ones on the tour which allowed us to be entertained and educated personally by Paul, the owner. He was full of great stories, anecdotes, and history and we enjoyed him immensely. We started out the tour around 1:00pm with him driving us... More

We liked that this tour left Cairns mid day and went into the evening as we had arrived early that morning. Paul was an excellent and knowledgable tour guide, who is very passionate about the area, the wildlife and greenery. Saw some amazing fig trees and local animals ( luckily 3 platapus!). The night portion was something we will never... More
