Owner description: 'Wait-a-While Rainforest Tours' specialises in small group day/night rainforest wildlife tours. It is magical to be involved in seeing a wild animal unrestricted in its natural environment in the rainforest. We often see platypus, birds, possums, tree kangaroos, insects, frogs, owls, reptiles, various invertebrates and other animals on our tours. As a lot of Australian rainforest animals are nocturnal, a night element and spotlighting is included with a knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide.

This is a different kind of rainforest tour in the sense that you get to see the wildlife both by day and by night. The tour goes from about 2.00 pm to 10.30 pm. Afternoon tea and dinner at Nick's Swiss Italian Restaurant in Yungaburra are included in the price. The tour visits that part of the Atherton Tablelands around... More

We went on this tour in early February and I can definitely say it was even better than what we were hoping for. Based on the descriptions of all the different tours this sounded like the best as far as seeing wildlife which is why we chose it. We were not disappointed. We lucked out as our group was the... Went on the wildlife tour with Paul yesterday evening and it was fantastic! Paul was passionate, knowledgeable and an expert in spotting the local Cairns wildlife. This tour is primarily focused on finding animals which is why it is held in the evening (80% of the animals are nocturnal) we had a great evening, saw wallabies, licked green ants, platypus... The line that hooked me on this tour was "80% of the wildlife is nocturnal, so why not see them at night?" The tour was just a blast. We licked green ants, and yes, they do taste like citrus! We drove up out of Cairns into the table lands. The forest here is absolutely unique and like nothing I've ever... More

I had an awesome time on this tour. Paul was a great guide and was full of information. Even though it was raining, we were still able to see a bunch of different animals. My main interest was to see a platypus in the wild and we were lucky and were able to see one. Thanks Paul. The meal provided... More

We arrived in Cairns in the morning, so this tour was perfect for the afternoon/evening. The guide was extremely knowledgeable concerning the rainforests and the animals that live there. Also he had photos of the animals and birds to show us. He recognized the birds by their songs, but they usually aren't visible in the rainforest. Near Cairns he showed... More

Paul is absolutely the best, so interesting... he knows everything about everything, and when he's decided he would find a platypus or a tree kangaroo for you, trust me, he will! We spent the most amazing day seeing all kind of animals, bugs, trees, birds, plants, and for each of them, Paul had an interesting story. I would really do... More

From the start Paul was friendly and informative. Swift pick up and wildlife from the get go. We saw lots of animals many much closer than we expected. We rarely waited more than a few minutes to see platypus, tree kangaroos, lizards, pademelons and possums. Paul was informative, able to answer any question. He was excellent with my deaf partner... We booked this tour for our group of four adults. Paul is an excellent and knowledgeable guide dedicated to maximizing viewing opportunities. From the moment we left our hotel he began to show us the wildlife right across the street and did not miss an opportunity to find every species he could. Tour is well organized but a few suggestions:... More

Our experience with the Wait-a-While Rainforest Tour was a memorable exploration of the local wildlife in and around Cairns. We signed up for the tour based on a recommendation from the Frommer's Guidebook. Paul conveniently picked us up from our hotel in central Cairns, where we rode alongside two other families. The small size of the group was ideal -... More
