There is a lot more to this museum, but the ex-HMAS Diamantina is - for us - the highlight. She lies in dry dock at one end of the Southbank Cultural area and with only a passing interest in history we found it fascinating. A definite go-again type of attraction for us.

Always lots going on here and staff that are very helpful and knowledgeable. Spend an hour or spend a whole day as there is plenty to see.

Used to live in the street overlooking the Dock....have always wanted to get there...and now have. I really enjoyed the visit...not crowded...fabulous views of the city. A perfect spot for a family outing and picnic at the tables provided. The Diamantina is fascinating and you could let the kids (about 8 and up) go by themselves and explore ...Staffed mainly... Tucked away at one end of Brisbane's South Bank Cultural Complex, this museum is well worth a visit. The centre piece, in the former South Brisbane Dry Dock, is HMAS Diamantina, the world's sole remaining River class destroyer. Built in 1945 and decommissioned in 1980, she has been restored by volunteers and you can climb all over her. On her... More

My husband and I visited the museum a couple weeks ago. It just happened to be gold coin day. Drop a gold coin into the donation box and that was our entrance fee. Even if we'd paid the normal amount it would've been worth it. Not only is the main museum filled with all kinds of great historical displays and... More

A long time favourite with locals, right on the Brisbane River and Goodwill Bridge. You can walk across the Bridge, catch a bus to Southbank Bus Station. The dry dock has the S.S. Forceful (steam tug) and H.M.A.S. Diamantina which you can walk through. There are lots of historical displays and staff are extremely helpful.

HMAS Diamantina. I was serving when she still carried the White Ensign. A great small maritime museum, something Melbourne is yet to copy

I spent 2 hours there in the morning, went out for lunch and went back again for another hour and ran out of time before I got to see everything. So did two other ladies I kept bumping into in there. Seek out a guide they are all ex-maritime people full of interesting knowledge. This museum allows you to walk... More

We were interested to see Jessica Watson's boat, Ella's Pink Lady. Jess was just 16 when she sailed around the globe in this yacht. The Diamantina was interesting too, but then a rainstorm started just as we went into the main museum building, but that was okay because we then were able to take a lot of time looking at... More
