In addition to the building itself, there was a great display that was free to see. The coffee shop was also tally good for a break during the day. The staff at the information were a huge help when it came to printing off documents. Backpackers can use the library for the internet or wifi. After library hours, the wifi... More

The State Library will challenge everything you believe about library experiences if you are thinking stuffy, quiet, boring. Set in the superb cultural centre complex (with the Gallery of Modern Art - GOMA; Qld Art Gallery; Performing Arts Centre ++), the State Library is a pulsing, live and colourful space for adults, hip young folk and children. Always something to... More

The State Library of Queensland has some very interesting holdings. The John Oxley Library within the complex with the historic photos and documents was the section in which I was most interested. Staff members were most helpful in directing me to the correct area to find the information I need.

With my Chinese colleague I was invited to view some of the collection of artists books that the Library have in their collection. It was a memorable visit, sparking of interesting debate.

The building is worth seeing, even if it were empty. The view is terrific. There's a great bookshop and coffee shop. There is a local history gallery on the top floor with unique exhibits. You can use their computers for free, or their wi-fi if you have your own device. Lots of little nooks. If you're missing family, take a... More

We were lucky enough to be given a personal tour by the State Librarian. The Library was buzzing, and the Edge is particularly interesting and well-used by (mainly) young media nerds. The indigenous centre is also very interesting, especially the exterior meeting place. The Library is the antithesis of the old (media-driven) stereotype of a library, and the Queensland government... More

Who'd have thought a library could be holiday attraction? This one is. Like the adjoining art galleries (QAG and GOMA) this modern architectural delight provides many mostly free cultural experiences that locals and visitors alike can enjoy. Every time I visit I find something to do or see and leave feeling uplifted. As a bonus, the well stocked shop is... More

this is a great local public facility. has everything a library should have. you can book rooms, which are great and private but you can only book them on the day and you have to book them in person, and they are very hard to get. cafe in the foyer.

Another of my favourite buildings at the cultural end of SouthBank (Art Gallery, GOMA, Museum). This building is full of light and sits on the Brisbane River bank. It has lots to offer ..... coffee shop, book shop, computers for general public, tours of the building, spaces for book readings, performances ..... this is a first class up to the... More
