We have recently spent most of a day on the Brisbane river using the excellent boat services provided. We started from North Quay (just down from the Visitors Centre) on the City Hopper a free service that criss-crosses the river in the heart of the city to get a feel for the sites and landed at the Maritime museum on... Get here early in the morning, I was there before 6am to take some pictures. Best place to start is the South end of Edward St were it meets the river then walk north along the footpath towards the rail bridge.

Clean, picturesque river with quite a bit of activity happening. Apart from the busy ferries there was a large Paddle Steamer that passed by. Lovely walking and bike paths also line the river, making it great to explore.

I took my 3 teenage grandchildren from Cairns on the City Cat from Southbank parklands to Bretts Wharf. We found a great 'fish n chip' shop at Portside then hopped back for the return journey. The kids thought it was THE best day. (NO MOBILES either) The river experience was a winner.

A wonderful place to sit and watch, relax, ride on a ferry or walk across one of the bridges to visit Queen street or just take in the scenery.

On my first evening in Brisbane I caught the free (red) City Hopper ferry from Eagle St to explore the river and to get my bearings. I travelled in both directions along the river and enjoyed seeing the illuminated buildings from the ferry. This free mode of transport provides an easy way to see the city from the water, particularly... More
