Most people don't know that this spot was to be the site of the largest Catholic cathedral in the southern hemisphere. All that remains is a sandstone retaining wall. Read all about it on Brisbane history websites (Holy Name Cathedral). The park is pleasant and has remains of a World War Two air raid shelter for further interest.

Is nothing than a simple small park, I think there are like millions around the world similar to this one, and the two statues in the Middle it maybe to remind one of the early Governors of Queensland. A visit of this site is up to 10 minutes, a few pictures and nothing more.

what a big disappointment ... not enough shade or trees - those plastic shades really need a clean (although they were sympathetically designed to blend in with the local church) - the park has terrible pedestrian access....

Centenary Place is a great little park in amongst a few major intersections. The peaceful pathways through this park are lovely and there is a nice relaxing atmosphere. Some nice statues form centrepiece's in the wide clear paths. Worth a look and a nice place to stop for a rest if you are walking between Brisbane centre and Fortitude Valley.
