Visiting the Undara lava tubes in late April was a sensational experience. The geology and the surrounding areas are fascinating. The location is a bit remote but that is one of its real appeals. We travelled by road from Townsville and Charters Towers. We had the train carriage accommodation which could be described as interesting and an adventure. There are... More

This place is a gem. I enjoyed being here so much. You can camp with your own van or tent. Or you can camp in one of their teepees! The other accommodation is converted railway carriages. I stayed in one of these and it was awesome! The carriages are all in a row and walking by them you would think... More

I’m more art of a artistic appreciator than a rock affecionado, but 24 hours into Undara and I had a new love of geology, partly because of the owner’s ability to transform a forgotten plot of Australia into a marvellous tourist attraction, but largely for the full itinerary of activities on offer. From the moment the breakfast dishes are cleared... More

Spent 3 nights at the Undara Lodge in their Pioneer Hut, which is similar to a standard room in a nice hotel. The room was quite large with a queen bed and a lounge that folds out to a double bed. The bathroom and toilet area is huge with lots and lots of cupboard space. Coffee and tea facilities in... More

My family went to Undara, driving out of Cairns. Took about 5 hours, fun drive and lots to look at. I have seen lava tubes before but this place has more to offer than just that. The sunset wildlife tour is really fun. This is where we saw most of the wallabys and kangaroos. They are all over this park... More

If you stay in Cairns, Port Douglas, or Palm Cove area, don't miss the Undara Experience! It is the perfect taste of the "Out back". There is different modes of transportation that will take you there. We took a tour bus there (about 5 hours) and the Savanalander Train back (about 10 hours!) The train was worth the time it... Undara is an excellent way to experience the Outback from Cairns, although you will need to drive a bit to get there. Certainly deserves at least one night at the lodge or campground. The drive is an experience, crossing through the Atherton tablelands and then into the bush. The road varies from two lanes of bitumen, to a single lange... More

The Undara Lava Tubes were an interesting place to visit, but it was such a long drive to get here from Cairns that I'm not sure it was worth it. We did get a little taste of the outback, and the lava tubes were interesting to look at. We also saw some wildlife which was nice. I would recommend it... More
