Bring mozzie repellent

Lovely day out but for the mozzies. Basic facilities more focused on water sports than picnic area. Water lilies are beautiful though

Good to visit the dam and the surrounding natural bush, South of Darwin. Pipe runs all the way to Darwin. I have seen water sports here too. Not in the catchment area though. Speedboats and water skiing.

We went for a picnic but you can't actually see the full lake, only a few meters! We were expecting vast views over the lake to bee the water sport but you can only see a very very small portion! The area needs trimming back to allow the full view to be seen. With a limited lake view, it feels... More

Best to view it in the wet season but never know what you might see when out there, just don't get out if your car on the spill way as crocs inhabit the area and you spot them on the road from time to time

A great spot to put your boat in for either some skiing or fishing. The lake has two large areas joined by a small lateral section which nicely separates those making wake and those wetting a line. Crocs appear during or shortly after the Wet on occasion, and the rangers close it for a period.

Nice spot to pull off the highway for a picnic or a look around, but unless you have a boat or a canoe, an hour is more than enough time to allow. They apparently catch lots of good barramundi there and we saw many smaller fish in the shallows.

Good spot for a picnic/bbq/swimming - and if you have a boat and skis/knee board etc you can do some skiing - later you can do some barra fishing and if you're lucky come home with a whopper.

Nice spot for waterskiing near Darwin, which is good, since its pretty much the only sport for waterskiing near Darwin. Apparently they keep the salties out, but you'll still need a couple of spare pairs of undies if you stack it and the boat keeps you waiting. If you're not into waterskiing (or wakeboarding etc) then there's really no reason... More

Two of my uncles where 1. The lead construction engineer, and 2. The construction foreman for the construction of the dam - the first permanent water supply for Darwin many years ago. Uncle 2, was in fact severley injured, but survived, a huge explosion at the dam in the mid 1950's - he had evacuated the workers but was caught... More
