West MacDonnell Range is an easy day trip from Alice Springs. You get to visit places such as Ochre Pit (its significance to the Aborigines), Simpsons Gap where you get to see Black-footed rock wallabies and Euro kangarooes. You shall also familiarise yourself with the deep red cleft of Standley Chasm, the mystique of Ellery Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge and... More

Eastern and Western McDonnell Ranges have a very different feel. Western Macs are more majestic, while the Eastern Macs have a more intimate feel. This is where Albert Namatjira used to paint. Did you ever see pink or even purple mountains? You will here!

The most beautiful scenery you will see anywhere if you take the trouble to visit the gaps and gorges. Watch out for the flies though.

The West MacDonnell ranges will provide you with a memorable day out in regards to spectacular views, swimming spots (depending on the time of year) and some remarkable photography. You can choose to self-drive or take one of the few available day tours with hotel pick up. Self-driving, gives you more flexibility, but both are worth the visit depending on... More

If you can find the time to add this to your trip to this area, you will be blown away by what there is to see and do in addition to a standard tour to Uluru/Kata and Kings Canyon.

The West and East MacDonnell Ranges offer a huge range of experiences and landscapes. It takes several days to visit the West and one or two days to get a grasp of the East.

The scenery and mountains were spectacular. The tour guide was brilliant. I was surprised at the size of some of the mountains such as Mt Sonden (Spelling?). The Geology of the area is also inspiring. MAPCIS (Massive Australian PreCambrian/Cambrian Impact Structure) supposedly the largest asteroid collision since the dawn of time. It might be worth getting information about this for... More

Did the west as a day trip. Very good road, well sign posted. The vistas were quite extraordinary. Because the weather was very hot we didn't do the longer walks. Given how many dry rivers exist, it was amazing to see swimming holes.

Great driving through the ranges - they are quite spectacular! A wonderful tourist attraction for Alice - and just minutes away from town.
