The guided tour with Jo was excellent. Coming from another state, having the correct suburb of Rose Hill in TripAdvisor would have saved me a lot of time and trouble trying to locate it. FortunateIy I persevered and found it worth the effort.

We caught the ferry from circular quay and wandered through the suburban streets trying to imagine the place before the colony started and when the Macarthurs had been there a few years. Intriguing. It was lovely to be able to touch things in the home. I was disappointed we had no guide and looking at other reviews certainly no iPads... More

Very well preserved piece of Australian heritage. Shame about some of the very ugly houses in the street and nearby Neighbourhood.

It’s worth spending an hour or more at Elizabeth Farm if in Parramatta (http://sydneylivingmuseums.com.au/elizabeth-farm). The farm holds the history of John and Elizabeth Macarthur from the 1800’s. The “museum” is different to most as it is interactive. That is you can touch items, sit on the furniture and even lay on the bed. There are no barriers or untouchable ornaments... More

We took the Rivercat upstream from the "Admiral Collingwood" hotel's Drummoyne Wharf. It takes an hour, but fascinating river trip with the last eight or so Km surrounded by mangrove swamps. It was easy to imagine the early Parramatta worthies being rowed up here 200 years ago: The mad bad, irascible Capt. John Macarthur, his charming (long-suffering?) wife Elizabeth, their... More

Firstly... This is listed as a farm on Tripadvisor, it is not. It is a historic house and grounds. If you come here looking for animals you will be disappointed. Arrived here just after 2:30 on a Sunday to be told that we had missed the last tour and it would close at 3:30pm. hmm... no reduction in entry cost... More

Elizabeth Macarthur's home near the Parramatta River has been restored in a way that gives visitors an insight into early Australian colonial life (for the merchant class). You can also get an idea of how this building influenced early domestic architecture.

Get a sense of Sydney's history by taking The Cat from Circular Quay to visit Parramatta, the site of several of Sydney's most historic sites. Despite being swamped by suburbia, Elizabeth Farm, the Experimental Farm Cottage, and Old Government House are worth the visit. This suburb was the site of the first farm established in the colony less than a... More
