This is a beatutiful spot and a hidden gem of Sydney ( Australian ? ) History. The house and gardens ane large and sit on the edge of Sydney Harbour with a spectatular vista . Wander through the house and read up on the story of May Gibbs and her creation of the Australian classic books including the Gumnut babies... More

This is a significant spot for those who enjoy finding out more about Australia's cultural history. It's also an authentic old house on a glorious harbour-view site. So a variety of people of all ages can visit this place and find some enjoyment in it. If you don't know Gibbs' illustrations and stories for children (and grown-ups), they are worth... More

Visiting Nutcote is a lovely thing to do. It is wonderful that May Gibbs' home has been retained and kept for the public to experience the joy of visiting the home of one of Australia's special authors. May Gibbs' stories for children have been enjoyed for many years. The way she wove stories around Australia's native trees and flowers was... More

This is just such a lovely place to visit. The volunteers are so friendly and well informed - they obviously love what they do. The location of this beautiful cottage is breath-taking. I would recommend Nutcote as a lovely place to take overseas visitors.

If you like May Gibbs you will love this hidden treasure. This is a great day out for adults and kids. The house itself has been restored to its former glory and the gardens are beautiful, thanks to the many volunteers who help with the running of the cottage. For all those brought up on the Gumnut Babies, like me, this is a charming step back into a time of greater innocence and simplicity. To be in the house where May Gibbs lived and worked, and to learn about her life is a true inspiration. But that isn't all! There is also a cafe/tea room serving yummy sandwiches and... More

Gorgeous historic house worth a visit if only to step back in time. Beautiful grounds. Amazing view. Fascinating look into the life of an iconic Australian. Before or after the visit, you can grab a bite at the cafe near the wharf. A perfect, relaxing day out!

Gibbs was an unorthodox character who endeared "gumnut babes" to generations of Australian children by animating bush flora on the page. Her residence on the shores of Neutral Bay will have you browsing local real estate windows too - just out of curiosity.

I had no idea this house was in Sydney, and open to the public. We travelled to Neutral Bay by ferry and walked up a quite steep hill to the house. It has an excellent gift shop stocked with all manner of things related to May Gibbs books and characters. The house itself has been restored to its 1920s character... More

This is good for anyone interested in a historical perspective. Few today know of May Gibbs but that perhaps is a good reason to visit here. Very close to the Neutral Bay ferry wharf so it is an easy trip across from the CBD. Would recommend a morning or afternoon ferry trip and couple it with a breakfast or lunch... More
