This is just such a lovely place to visit. The volunteers are so friendly and well informed - they obviously love what they do. The location of this beautiful cottage is breath-taking. I would recommend Nutcote as a lovely place to take overseas visitors.

If you like May Gibbs you will love this hidden treasure. This is a great day out for adults and kids. The house itself has been restored to its former glory and the gardens are beautiful, thanks to the many volunteers who help with the running of the cottage. There is a lovely coffee shop and gift shop. We were... More

For all those brought up on the Gumnut Babies, like me, this is a charming step back into a time of greater innocence and simplicity. To be in the house where May Gibbs lived and worked, and to learn about her life is a true inspiration. But that isn't all! There is also a cafe/tea room serving yummy sandwiches and... More

Gorgeous historic house worth a visit if only to step back in time. Beautiful grounds. Amazing view. Fascinating look into the life of an iconic Australian. Before or after the visit, you can grab a bite at the cafe near the wharf. A perfect, relaxing day out!

Gibbs was an unorthodox character who endeared "gumnut babes" to generations of Australian children by animating bush flora on the page. Her residence on the shores of Neutral Bay will have you browsing local real estate windows too - just out of curiosity.

I had no idea this house was in Sydney, and open to the public. We travelled to Neutral Bay by ferry and walked up a quite steep hill to the house. It has an excellent gift shop stocked with all manner of things related to May Gibbs books and characters. The house itself has been restored to its 1920s character... More

This is good for anyone interested in a historical perspective. Few today know of May Gibbs but that perhaps is a good reason to visit here. Very close to the Neutral Bay ferry wharf so it is an easy trip across from the CBD. Would recommend a morning or afternoon ferry trip and couple it with a breakfast or lunch... More

A fascinating place with an informative video about May Gibbs's life and a tour through the house that was especially built for her and her husband. There is a small cafe where you can get tea, coffee and sandwiches or scones and cakes and at road level a shop selling good quality souvenirs. Not to be missed!

The interest is probably enhanced by the location - lovely setting and gardens near the harbour. Not sure if you would make an effort if you spent a lot of time getting there. There is some historical interest but few people today would know much about May Gibbs.

I did not know of May Gibbs but was. recommended her house and gardens. A lovely tranquil place to spend a few hours. I took a guided tour which was very informative. Then had a sandwich and coffee. The house is in a beautiful location with very helpful volunteers.
