We recently attended the Sydney Festival 'St George Open Air Cinema. What a fabulous event. This was one of the most elegant of outdoor cinemas and a first-class summer night out. You get allocated seats in the stadium you can watch the screen rise up over the water, with the Opera House and Bridge in the background. Before the showing,... More

Every year we get our tickets to these screenings in January. Tickets go on sale in early December and generally sell out very quickly. The setting for this outdoor cinema is right on the harbour with the city and Opera House as a back drop. The event is licenced and your can get a wide variety of food to choose... More

Normally I love this event. On a fine summer night there is seriously no better night. But tonight, what a shmozzle. You can't control the weather but the organizers need a more professional way to deal with it. I have been unlucky enough to have booked 4 nights this season with them all rained out. The first was cancelled on... More

Well this was my first time to this event...... Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was well organized, plenty of food and drink choices. The weather was perfect summer evening. Able to donate to a charity fund and obtain a cushion for your seat. Going to another two movies. Will definitely go next year again. Great way to see the wonderful... More

Every year I go to at least 4 movies during the few months it is on. The whole experience is surreal. Sitting right on the waterfront watching movies with the city skyline , Opera House and Harbour Bridge as the back drop. Amazing. The food is not great and the drinks ( cocktails especially ) are very expensive so a... More

We bought 3 sets of tickets for movies at the St George Open Air cinema this year. Last night we saw The Walk. Outstanding! What a delight. Facilities have continued to improve over the years - comfortable seating, good food options, very pleasant harbourside dining with plenty of tables, reserved seating with stickers that you place on your seats when... We visited this theatre in a group of four and arrived early (at 6.15 opening time) to reserve seats and have dinner prior to the show. On arrival found most seats already reserved and no space at tables upon which to sit and eat dinner. Finally secured a standing spot for dinner and drinks (both of which were fairly ordinary.... Okay this is seriously an amazing thing to do - you would not believe how spectacular it was. Entered with a woman from Lindt offering chocolates, got good seats and easy to grab a drink - all great and fantastic service and no queuing. Then the environment was amazing great views and amazing to watch the sunset. The film was... More

We were fortunate enough to secure tickets for the opening night. We had a fantastic evening in one of the most idyllic, iconic locations in Sydney- Lady Macquaries Chair. The weather was fantastic, food, champers, wine, movie and company all great. You even received a nice seat cushion for a small donation. We are so lucky to have such a... More

Love coming here. Just a fabulous overall experience. Good & wine available to purchase. Can be difficult to get tickets if you don't get in early. You can get walk up tickets but I haven't tried to do it that way. A must for travellers. The Harbour Bridge, Opera House & Sydney Harbour in the background in Amazing!!!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
