Went this week with a friend on a quiet mid week sunny spring day. Grabbed a salad from a local cafe and walked along the water until we found a nice grassy spot. Mid week carparking is $5 an hour max 3 hrs, and we saw 2 parking inspectors so dont think you can get away with not paying!

We didn't eat at Balmoral, however we spent a day at the beach and it was excellent. If you want to swim without big waves crashing down and spend some time on the beach, I would highly recommend this beach.

This is my favourite spot in Sydney. Beautiful busy and buzzy in the summer weekends yet on a beautiful winters day quiet and calm. Walk down here as often as I can. Wonderful to relax on the grassy belt with a vino on a gorgeous day. Few great (yet pricey) restaurants all with lovely views. Perfect spot for young families... More

Walking the promenade or sand, snorkeling around the island, sitting with a picnic and wine in the sun watching the night wash over the scene. This is just a great spot.

Hands down my favourite swimming beach in Sydney. Not for surfers, or lovers of waves. A calm beach near the mouth of the harbour. Great for small children. Lots of great food around, clean sand and water. However, during low tide things can get a little murky and dirty so avoid at this time.

Stopped here for a stroll. Has an elegant, old world feel. Clean sand, clearly well-maintained. A natural, sheltered bay perfect for young families. A wedding party were assembling on the island linked by a short bridge. A welcome contrast to Bondi.

A white sand beach which is my first in Australia. A lovely panoramic view of the beach without the clutter of businesses and trade as in other popular Australian beaches

Even in winter, there are still a few hardy people in the clear water and at the weekend lots of families with young children building sandcastles. The Bottom of the Harbour takeaway fish and chip restaurant always seems to have a queue and the fish and chips are excellent, On the sunny afternoon we were there, we walked the short... More

Balmoral is my favourite Sydney Harbour beach because it is clean, calm and accessible. While it can get busy during the summer months it is worth the effort to swim, sunbake, snorkel and dine. Try an early morning swim across the bay with the swim club - a great way to start the day.
