It might be a well constructed building but what you observe immediately in that end of town is the dodgy looking druggies, lots of shared student accommodation and a higher proportion of police patrol. Redfern and Kings Cross are close by.

Busy, large, bustling station, with plenty of helpful friendly staff and volunteers. Lots of easy to follow signage. If planning on using trains, buses and ferries, get a free opal card for discount fares. Using card, Sunday is all day travel for $2.50, so you can go to the blue mountains for $2.50.

This is a great place; an absolute hub for public transport in the city centre and very accessible to all. A great place for people-watching too.

Some very nice architectural elements, but the station complex itself is quite confusing. Plenty to see and do.

I had the problem when using the underground part for the first time, completly had no idea where I was going.. there are signs that show exit "this street",... More

I too love old train stations and travel extensively in Europe by rail. Taking my wife to the station to catch a train was a humbling experience. There are no signs that tell you where the trains leaving in any direction are located. I found an employee at the information stand that was helpful but could not believe that she... More

My husband and I loved train travel and have travelled extensively on trains in Europe. However a very recent encounter with Sydney's Central Railway Station left us scratching our heads and very frustrated. We arrived on a Country Link train heading for the International Airport. My husband walks with a walking stick and is somewhat restricted physically. Our 1st directions... More

You can catch a train from here to nearly anywhere in Sydney as well as regional trains to Newcastle, Hunter and Blue Mountains. Country and interstate trains also leave from here.
