Nielsen Park offers up wonderful eastern views of Sydney harbour. It has million dollar views, pack a picnic, get there early to find parking as this is a busy park that is frequented by locals and visitors. For those who enjoy photgraphy I suggest ealy in the morning or late afternoon to capture the mood and tone of the ever... More

Whenever I'm in Sydney staying with family, we nearly always end up at Nielsen Park for a swim, picnic, walk or just a coffee at the small shop. The inner harbour bays are so safe for kids to swim, and are usually a few degrees warmer than the ocean bays. The grounds are a wonderful walk and old Greycliffe House... More

Nielsen Park is one of my favourite places in Sydney, and not many locals even know of it. It's not that easy to get to by public transport. However, I thoroughly recommend visiting especially in the summer. In my opinion, walk the Hermitage Foreshore Walk (close to Rose Bay wharf). You'll walk past often empty beaches and have great views... More

This is a secret part of Sydney, that very few people know about, a little hard to find, a little hard to get too, but once there hard to leave, pack a picnic lunch, a blanket to sit on, and the time to enjoy the view of the Sydney Harbour and this wonderful little park.

This place is very popular all year round. I like to have breakfast at the Nielsen Park cafe and swim on this popular beach.

Just a quick note to say the shark net is only up for part of the year. They usually take it down around late April (autumn) and return it in spring.

I remember my son's walks with me in park and Shark Bay beach ... They are now only memories 38 years later. I miss young son but he does not remember his caring father. The park walk is a past discovery and how the rich English landlords brought from their distant Empire to dominate their new colony with cheap convict... More

This must be such a lovely place to go for regular picnics or family outings - cannot imagine a better one. Magnificent trees and a very cute and tranquil harbour beach with protective nets.

You can catch the ferry to here. A lovely little beach right in the middle of Sydney Harbour. Just around the corner is a doggy beach at Vaucluse. Great for family picnics or picnics for anyone and have a swim as well. Parking is a problem though, unless you car pool,so catch a ferry!

I grew up here and recently returned to see what has changed. It's free now in my day we paid to get in. It is now a littlte different. The netis still there but the dive tower and pontoons have gone. Dressing sheds not much different. I wonder if the local school kids skinny dip as we did there at... More
