For a perfect morning, walk the length of Manly Beach and keep going along the walkway to Shelly Beach -- a great destination! Small and safe, it's perfect for families and has the added benefit of the park and its facilities being right on the beach, as well as being car-free. The Boathouse café is a winner as well, with... Shelly Beach is a nice relaxing beach to go with a few friends or family. Fairly quiet unlike the main beaches you go to which is good for people who wants to get away from the crowds. Although, the downside of going here would be the parking. It is in a residential area with very tight streets due to cars... More

This is a quiet little alcove where families and beginner swimmers can come without fear of being ripped out to see.

Shelly Beach (also spelled Shelley Beach is a small beach on a tiny cove at the southern end of the more famous Manly Beach, in Sydney. I lived in Manly for many years and Shelly Beach was a favourite place for my wife and I to take our two kids, because it is protected on all sides, by North Head... More

Shelly Beach is a sheltered beach around the bay from iconic Manly beach, around a 15 minute walk. On the walk itself, there is plenty to see - large water dragons, sunning themselves on the rocks, as well as small sculptures of the various forms of marine life. There is plenty of shallow water for small children to splash in,... More

Spent a few days in Manly last week including swimming & snorkeling at Shelly Beach & in the Aquatic Reserve. Even with a big swell running this area was relatively well protected & OK for snorkeling. Plenty of fish to see, small rays, blue grouper, some cuttlefish dancing around the kelp beds. The beach itself was busy on all days,... More

Just go there, you won't regret it. Take snorkeling stuff. Amazing fish and other Marine life! The best thing though was the amount of Eastern Water Dragons on the rocks on the way to the beach from manly. They're so cool and really tame!!!

I was surprised to see how much marine life this beach has underneath. I went for a guided shore dive in to a chilled 14degC water during winder but can't complain with the scenery that I've seen. The place is so accessible by car but going by bus or ferry saves you the hassle of finding a parking spot. Worth... More

A small well protected beach with plenty of shade and space for family picnics and now with a new build Boathouse restaurant and kiosk. Add to this the fact that it is also very picturesque and easily accessible by the oceanside walkway from the South Steyne end of Manly main beach it is also very popular. Parking at the beach... It was pretty busy when we went, lots of families. We did see a few divers there. Unfortunately that day someone died there diving and there was a thunderstorm.

Staying in Manly

Neighborhood Profile
Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbor Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
