This Art Gallery is TARDIS-like in its size - it houses deceptively large exhibitions on European, Contemporary, Modern and Asian art. There's even Pottery for those who like a good plate. It's well set out and there's enough novelty and hands-on activities to bring kids (though not for as long). For those who haven't been exposed to much Australian or... More

Enjoy it here any time - whether it be local artists or special exhibitions, always a treat. Saw the American history of art and it was fascinating to see the development and changes in art in another country. Exhibitions are always well curated and interesting. Easy to get whether by public transport or nearby parking at Domain.

Great place to see Australian art. I was not familiar with this at all and got to learn a lot. There is of course the usual European and Asian art as well. The lowest floor had nice aboriginal art. One depicting Captain Cook as a pirate was particularly moving. You could spend a whole day here. Indeed, we cam back... More

I was very impressed with the thought put into arranging the various collections. The post modern section and the Australian sections were my favorite - but overall everything was worthwhile. This is hands down the choice art museum over the contemporary art museum. Pro tip- check out the cafe downstairs for lunch, food is excellent at a decent price

I've been here for many of their special showings and thoroughly enjoyed them, beware if its one of their short ones as the crowds get to be quite large and the lines even worse. On a normal visit its lovely and peaceful, you are able to sit and admire your favourites. There is also a nice café with reasonably priced... More

Went with a girlfriend for a late brunch, walk to the art gallery and viewed the current works. The art gallery is surrounded by wonderful parklands and the view to the harbour is amazing. The exhibitions and layout of the gallery is world class with a well stocked shop that has a great range of art and architecture books.

Some excellent art, and we from the Northern hemisphere will not see Australian landscape painting unless we come somewhere like this. Some interesting contemporary art, and an excellent collection of Asian art and pottery/porcelain. We went on a Sunday and the place was packed. Great to see families enjoying art together!

I can't believe this place was free of charge (with the exception of some special exhibits) And for those of you who are needing Wi-Fi access, they had it free of charge. It was a very open and quiet with a wide variety of exhibits. If you are an art enthusiast - this is a MUST see and you could... More
