Description:

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's only dedicated cartoon gallery....

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's only dedicated cartoon gallery. It is housed in a genuine World War 2 underground bunker which was constructed in 1943 as a communications facility for the R.A.A.F. Today it is a quirky exhibition space with regularly changing exhibitions of funny and insightful cartoons from Australian and international cartoons. The Bunker is also the home of the Coffs Cartoon Collection which consists of over 20,000 cartoons and is one of the largest collections of its type in world. Please note that the Bunker does show the occasional non-cartoon exhibition as part of its commitment to the local community.

There in early December with a group of friends as part of a day trip we organised, well worth going if not just for the history alone but the cartoons are another thing, I did not realise that way back then the still had a wicked sense of humour, Enjoy Geoff.

A fun museum in an underground bunker. The 4 minute film in the entrance gives a potted history of the bunker itself, and the museum contains an interesting collection of cartoons from around 1850 to the present day. Well worth $3!

Local or not, a great way to spend a while learning about 'stuff'. The presentation changes regularly so there is always a surprise waiting for the locals. Out of townees are more than welcome and the donation at the door is minimal. The ambiance is old world with time to browse and reflect.....great time spent here.

The Gallery is under a new inovative management team and now open 7 days a week. They have come up with some great ideas for the gallery and as well as the excellent cartoons on show have art classes, musical entertainment and more!

We visited this after I had found it on the internet when researching what things we could in Coffs Harbour. It was worth the visit - we enjoyed the witty and contemporary cartoons and clever caricatures. It is staffed by volunteers, so go and support them. The history of the bunker during the Second World War was interesting - the... More

As it turned out, I visited this place on the Coffs Harbour Public Holiday for the Horse Racing which was located close by. I had the place to myself for nearly an hour except for the two volunteers. Was able to enjoy some great political cartoons which was the current feature being displayed. Also able to browse through several catalogues... More

Nice to have this in the city. Go for a look and a wander and see what has been happening in Australian politics etc.

Charts history and social Australia through this amazing collection of cartoons. It is a shame that more are not able to be displayed concurrently. Upcoming new management may well help this .

We purposely put this on the list of things to see when we went to Coffs as we have a few arty people in our family, especially my 12 year old son. The entry was full of brilliant iconic coloured cartoons which were witty and well executed, unfortunately inside the gallery all the paintings were by local school kids and... More

I'm sorry for your disappointment. Unfortunately when you visited the Bunker Cartoon Gallery it was under the management of the Coffs Harbour City Council, and non-cartoon exhibitions were occasionally shown during their management period. The Bunker has since been taken over by the Bunker Cartoon Gallery Inc. as at July 1, 2015. The BCGI is the original group that back... More

Seriously, a gallery just for cartoons? How cool is that? Right now, there's other art in it as well but apparently that's about to change soon.
