When we got to the museum the friendly staff directed us to the exhibits Whitchurch include many carriages three steam Locomotives on the day we went the museum was running train rides to fischwik in a restored CPH rail motor all in all we enjoyed our day

If visiting Canberra allow time to visit this rail museum and its beautifully restored steam engines rail motors and carraiges.It is home to one of the very few working garrett type locomotives in the world.Plenty of photos and memorabilia as well.Located at Fyshwick

I did a steam train journey which included lunch. The lunch was a little light on (for $25) though riding in deluxe car gave more space to view the scenery. Majority of the volunteers were in great spirit though one member did not appear happy to be on the train.

The best overall rail collection that I have seen in Australia. Good variety of locomotives and rollingstock of various eras, including the first steam engine to work into Canberra.

Out by the Canberra Railway station and a very large and historic collection some of which still needs restoring. What has been restored and working is the first locomotive into Canberra which is the oldest working loco in Austalia, the largest steam loco in Australia and a selection of working diesels from the earliest to the present. This is a pretty well hidden gem that is very interesting if you like railway history. No moving parts but a good place.
